A friend is offering his 99.9% Remington 1100 Sporting 12 with two barrels (28" and 30") and  a case for $500.

This seems to be a pretty good deal to me.  A new 1100 is around $850, I think.  Don't know that the extra barrel will do me that much good.

Should I go for it?

I don't know what the fancy 1100's go for, but the plain-jane synthetic 1100's around here go for $329 used & $429 new in the box...

Saw a fancy 870 trap gun selling for $499, so I would imagine $500 is a fair price for a fancy autoloader...

They are great for shooting those.....

I bought my Sporting 12 brand new for $240. It was in about 1989.

This one has American Walnut furniture, so it isn't the synthetic stock.  I expect it will bump up the value somewhat, but certainly it isn't a fancy custom with engraving either.

The Remington page shows it at $895 list with a single barrel.  So $500 used seems about right, but I just wanted some feedback.

You might find the 30" barrel usefull on the sporting clays course or trap. For skeet I think I'd use the 28". Make sure you get the chokes to go with it.

That is one gun that has always risen in price. My dad bought his Rem1100 Lt 20 Gauge in the late sixties for $120/150 NIB.

Oh yeah, the price is a great deal with 2 barrels.

The 1100 Sporting alone is roughly $550 - $650 in excellent (98%+) condition.  Then you have the extra barrel and case.............

Looks like a 'go' to me.

As I write this, it sits in my trunk, along with a full box of shells that my friend provided so I can try it before buying it.

Better than a gun dealer!

He seems to think that the choke is machined into the barrel, and not removable.  I never knew that the 1100s were made that way (without removable chokes), and I haven't had the chance to look at it, myself.  He purchased it new in 1974 in England (he was in the Air Force at the time) and has provided paperwork.

The finish is spotless, and the only thing I noticed was the lack of a gold plated trigger, which I thought was stock on the Sporting 12.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback.  Who knows, maybe I will have to test fire it for a year or two before deciding
