I had a SIG 245. It was a little too thick, and it had a little too much muzzle flip.
Sold it and got a Kimber compact CDP. Thinner, prettier, less muzzle flip.
I will give SIG this much. Had three of them (still have one). Extremely reliable. I've got 5000+ through a SIG P229 40SW with six failures to feed. My 220 and 245 may have failed to feed once or twice, but I don't recall it. They are excellent in the reliabilty department. I just grew to dislike the trigger pull after I started shooting 1911s.
As for the original question, what is a compact. There are smaller weapons than a compact 1911. I usually carry a five shot SW M60 .357, but in a semi-auto, I'll take a small 1911 in .45ACP. There are smaller choices, but a compact 1911 is flat enough to conceal with light attire and it's hard to beat .45ACP in a pistol caliber.
