Last night my brother sold me his Walther P-22 for $125.  It only has 100 rounds through it and its in perfect shape.

Family sales aren't applicable to "great deal" threads.  

But I will tell you about my great deals in getting a Sako Manlicher style 7mm Rem Mag and a Weatherby Mark V in 257 Weath Mag for $600 (for both)!  

Could be classified as a 'relative' shafting........but that's still a good deal !

I once traded a Whopper Combo Meal from Burger King and a 12-pack of Pepsi(about $6.75 total) for a genuine Bianchi M-12 Holster. Happened at Ft. Riley, KS. The guy was real hungry & had no cash, but he had an extra M-12 Holster. He was on guard duty at a motorpool and couldn't go anywhere. So I "hooked him up".

My SIG P-226 fits it just right...I've still got it.

OK, OK...here's the best "deal" that I ever got...kinda long, but good!

This also happened at Ft. Riley, KS.

I was on a detail cleaning-up & moving our Supply Room from one building to another. I came across a MRE box that had been opened. I picked it up & shook it to see how full it was. I immediately knew it wasn't MRE's. I opened the box & found 8 Sony ICF Pro-80 Shortwave Radios. Complete coverage from 150khz(below AM) to 108mhz(top of the commercial FM scale). There were also 5 Frequency Converters, which can be used to expand the frequency range the radio can receive(115.150mhz to 223.00mhz- aviation & public service bands).

"Hey Sarge, I found these radios. Where do you want them?" I said to the Supply Sergeant.

"I've been looking for those." he replied. Crap, I thought. "They don't work, I've been meaning to throw 'em out." he continued.

"Can I 'throw 'em out' into the back of my truck?" I asked.

"I don't give a damn where you put them, so long as they're out of my supply room!" he replied.

WOO-HOO!!!

I put them into my truck and took them home that night. After looking them over, all I had to do was spend about 10 minutes on each one cleaning the battery terminals with a pencil eraser and got 7 of the 8 to work. The 8th one was very corroded inside and I decided to use it for spare parts if I needed any.

I found out that there was a Sony warranty service station a couple of hours away in Overland Park, KS. So I took one of the radios and went there to get an instruction manual and find out what else I could about these radios.

I got there and told the guy behind the counter about how I came across the radios. He took the one I had and looked at the data plate on the bottom of it. He entered the model number in his computer. This is what he told me:

"This is the ICF Pro-80 Receiver. It came out in 1987 and retailed for $540. What probably happened is that Sony came out with these radios and they didn't sell too well because they were so expensive. So Sony has a warehouse full of them that they can't move. Well, Desert Shield/Storm kicked off and everybody wanted to do something for the troops. Sony donated a bunch of these radios to the troops. Sony came out on top 3 ways. 1st, Sony gets a lot of good publicity with the public, especially the guys who get the radios. 2nd, they free up a bunch of warehouse space. 3rd, and most important to Sony, they get a FAT tax write-off."

Needless to say, I felt pretty smug about basically getting about $4300 of radio equipment for free.

Now, can anybody top THAT for a "great deal"?

The best deal I ever got is when my good for nothing biological father popped his head into my life for 3 months and gave me a late 70's Model 94 Min. in 30-30.

But I'd have to say I broke even, I had a hell of time sorting out the bogus stories from the truth.

A buddy of mine had a 20-ft camper GIVEN to him.......just because some guy died in the thing don't mean it's no good.

I got some nachos for 99cents, not only a deal, but a TASTY deal.

My best gun deal would have to be the Mitchell Arms Yugoslavian AK that I paid $300 for.

Best family deal would be the 2000 Grand Am with 14500 miles on it that my dad gave me.

I've been blessed with a number of good deals.

In 1973 I was given a 1963 Chevy Bel-aire that was owned by the grandmother of a friend of mine. It had a straight 6 and was my first car. Drove it most of the way through college until I wrecked it. Then the same guy's roomate at college gave me a 68 Mustang that he had backed into a pole with. He was going home (to another state) and couldn't drive it. The trunk was V'd in to the back window. I bought a trunk lid and gas tank from a junk yard and fixed it. Drove it the rest of my college years.

In 1983, I bought a couple Mossberg shotguns (a 410 & 12 ga.) from a police auction for $100. A year later I traded both for a HK91 that was made in 1980. In 1998 I sold the HK91 for $2400.00. Pretty good return on investment.

About a week ago, I bought a 2 year old 14.5HP lawn tractor/mower with a trailer and de-thatcher for $125.00 from a doctor who was moving.

I still think I got the best deal in the world, a bakers dozen of calico mags for $45 at an auction. They had no clue what they had.

Best deal I ever got.

1970 17ft Glastron trihull w/a Mercury 110 outboard-$750.  After about $250 in cleanup and repair I sold it for $3500 which I used as a down payment on a brand new 19ft Four Winns.

I picked up a Slush Puppy machine from behind the high school one day.  It was being tossed out since it no longer worked.  

A buddy with me convinced me to haul it off for target practice.  Since I hauled it home, I decided to just see what was wrong with it and if there might be any parts, motors, wires etc that I could salvage.

A loose wire later and I was the proud owner of a 10 gallon Margarita-Pina Colada-Rum and Coke-slushy machine.
