Greetings everybody! I have recently fell in love with the AR-15 and I would like to purchase one. The only problem is that I live within the borders of the People's Republic of Kalifornia, and assault rifles are banned. Can anyone please give me some advice as to how I can pull this off? Two pieces of advice people have given me are:

1) drive to Neveda, buy it, come home
2) go to a gunshow where they will sell you one with the pistol grip sawed off, add a new one later.

I dont know how if these ideas are even plausable? Can anyone please help me? Or maybe I should just move...? :-)

Thank you ahead of time!

God Bless America!

First post.  It asks us to tell you how to do something illegal.  Just move.

You must be a troll with a statement like

1) drive to Neveda, buy it, come home
2) go to a gunshow where they will sell you one with the pistol grip sawed off, add a new one later

You must not be very familiar with gun laws either or you must be one of the Democrats who spout crap on how you 'can just go to another state' or 'just go to a gunshow'.  You go to Nevada and they will not sell you one once you show your California ID, which you will have to do.  And where do you get that gunshow crap from?

Whoa hold on there! I'm on your team man! Why are you slamming me? No way in hell am I a socialistic democrat pinko. You are right, I am not familiar with the details of the gun laws, and I am just asking for help.

I'll tell you who gave me that advice. My friend's dad owns a bunch of rifles including two AR-15s. I've fired the AR several times now and I am interested in owning one of my own. I asked him how I might be able to get one and he told me to either go to a gunshow and get one with the grip sawed off or go to nevada where my parents live.

I'm sorry! I'm just trying to learn here. I thought I'd ask you guys. Believe me I hate it here and I will probably move. I cant understand why you slammed me after asking so politely?

Can anyone else give some friendly advice without being so rude?

Thanks!

Closest you can legally get to an AR-15 in Kali is this:

Yes, I say get a FAB10 which is a 10 round fixed mag lower. There are places that sell pre-made rifles with it, or you could get the FAB10 lower and build your own. While an AR-15 without a pistol grip would be legal under SB23, it would not be legal under the Roberti-Roos AW ban and therefore it is not an option.

I don't think you deserve flames, but if you're looking for approval to do something illegal it's not going to happen here. Here in Cali our options are very sadly limited. If you want a Semi-automatic .223 rifle with detachable magazines, your option is mainly limited to the Mini-14. It isn't a great alternative, and you can only get 10-round magazines max in CA, but it's not that bad.

AR-15's were banned in PRK, period.  Last day to mail registration papers was 1/23/2001.  If you didn't get the papers in the mail by then, you are positively SOL.

1.  Out of state dealer wouldn't sell you any rifle, let alone an AR, as PRK law requires ALL gun sales to go through an ffl in the PRK.

2.  Tell your Dad's friend that as long as it's an AR, you can saw off anything and it's still not legal in PRK.

Find the PRK department of 'justice' web page, hit the link to firearms law, and read it.

about the only option you have is to buy one with the FAB-10 lower.  My lower just came in today, just need to wait my 10 days now.  If you live near the Bay Aera Call kerly's at 408-255-1920 and ask for Casey, he will help you out.

Moving is your best option.

If you go to an out of state gun show, no dealer will sell one to you.

If your parents buy one, you can go visit THEIRS and go shooting with "Wolfpack".

Move or go with the FAB 10.  That is basically your only two legal choices.

Maybe it is just the lingering aftereffect of the vanilla coke I drank at lunch, but I think I smell pork.

What about that DPMS pump action rifle? I've seen one before. Are they still making that one? Also, I recently saw a AR15 that was a single shot, but then again, who wants a single shot AR? Goddamn, I gotta get out of here.

The FAB10 is the ONLY option I know of.

You can read info on California's various (pointless & uesless) firearms laws here

I apologize if we seems rude but the question made mention of things which are illegal and many are leary.

There is NOTHING that you can do to alter an AR-15 type of fire arm to make it legal. The FAB10 is the only exception because it cannot accept detachable magazines, has a built-in magazine which can only accept 10 rounds.

If it could hold more than 10 rounds, it would be illegal and if it could accept detachable magazines, it would be illegal as well.

It is illegal to purchase an AR-15 type of firearm and import it into the state. It is also illegal to buy one within the state.

All AR's had to registered and are CANNOT be transferred (no one can sell you one no matter what the circumstances are).

All-in-all, the FAB-10 while not perfect is a viable oprion.

Be sure and sell your FAB-10 before you move. Resell value will be for-shit outside of Kalifornia.

we get hit by trolls all the time asking how to do illegal things.  some of us suffer, to varying degrees, of "once bitten, twice shy" syndrome.  as "right wing extremists", we tend to exhibit a fair amount of suspicious paranoia regarding new posters.

it's kinda a knee jerk reaction.  don't take it personally.

and to answer your question:  MOVE!!!!!!

You can't use the FAB 10 in high power, but it is still a good option for PRK. If you move out of state, you could keep it and put a suppressor on the end. It would be better to use the FAB10 as a collapsable stock carbine w/ a pre ban upper while in PRK, then sell the FAB before you move and put the money towards a preban lower. You will already have the other parts. Gilman & Mayfield firearms in Fresno sell them for $300 w/ no buttstock. Order the collapsable from CDNN for $59.99, and a preban Bushmaster upper from Gunsmoke Enterprises for $485. A 10 round preban style carbine for right around $900.

By the way,
You theoretically can buy a gun from a private party at a NV gunshow if they didn't ask you for your drivers license. Technically both of you are breaking the law (federal & state). It happens, but it is not a wise practice.

Move to Arkansas!  You can stay with my family till you find a place, we'll feed you some good old fattening southern food (no tofu allowed around here!) and go shooting every day.  Our state also has a "shall issue" concealed carry law. Wherever you go, get out of Clintonfornia.  The political movers and shakers there hate you and every other patriotic, gun-owning real American in their state (and yes, it is their state, not yours).  Go someplace where you'll be welcomed and appreciated, not hounded and scorned.  Good luck and best wishes.

You need to move to the United States of America, where it is legal to own an AR.  I personally would not live in a foreign country like Mexico or California.

A question for our California brethren.

Can a legal, registered AW (such as an AR) in California be transferred to another person?

I'm just curious. I live in a free state. MGs and all are legal here, we have shall-issue CHLs and all of the good stuff, but I am curious.

No.

Also, it CANNOT be put in a Will or Trust for your children or others.

If I had to go through so much trouble & face so much state-sponsored harassment just to partake of something enjoyable & in my private life, I'd just go ahead & research moving altogether. Why tolerate unjust/biased/discriminitory laws in a state that perpetually seeks to expand its power & control, & which criminalizes a segment of the population that was truly never posing a problem in the 1st place?

Seriously consider/investigate moving to a friendlier state. There is plenty of opportunity in other, gun-friendlier, states. You won't regret it, & you certainly won't look back. I know didn't.
