If they did I can see why they stopped. It looks kinda half-assed, almost like someone tried to use leftover parts from a couple different rifles.

That's about the gayest looking upper I've ever seen. It misses the whole point of a dissipator upper.... a longer sight radius.

It's better to appear stupid, then to post something like that on ebay and remove all doubt.

We used to use M16's set up like that when I was with the SEAL team, back in 'Nam during the Tit Offensive. They had the Bushmaster upper, but mounted on Mattel lowers.

One guy in my outfit used one to take a shot at a Viet Cong sniper we spotted 1250 meters out in the jungle. Well, you know how M16 bullets tumble, right? The tip of the tumbling bullet got hung up in the slot of his flash suppressor and sheared off. He missed the guy he was aiming for, but the bullet tip killed another VC hiding in the dense bushes less than 10 meters in front of us who was about 2 seconds away from wiping our whole squad out with fire from his mortar.

Best damn rifles we ever had.

Bushmaster/Quality Parts Company  made a short run of these uppers back in the early 90's. You can read about them in the  Spring 1992 Issue of Fighting Firearms(Published by SOF)  If I remember correctly they only made 50-100 of these uppers before Colt came out with the M4 handguards. These were superseded by the Dissipator model.

This is a legit sale.  This is the original style of dissipator uppers before Bushmaster moved the front sight post out to the position of a 20" barrel.  It is a bit awkward looking and BM changed the design after about 6months.  It is however exactly what the seller says.

maybe so... I just found another of these.

Bushmaster sure made a mistake with that one! I've got the "regular" dissipator and the early design has nothing to offer me.

I saw something at our range in CT that looked EXCATLY like the photo of the 9mm subgun you posted.  The portion of the handguard forward of the front sight housed a suppressor.  One of the local SWAT guys brought it with him.

It looked wierd but it WAS fun to play with.

Well, it almost pains me to tell this...

I got that idea from a comment made by a guy I served with in the Army:

"I don't believe any of those stories about M16 bullets tumbling. If they did, the bullets would get stuck in the flash suppressor."

The guy was my squad leader, a pretty good guy, and NCOIC of the small arms repair shop I was working in.
