Have you tried cold blue? I might come out ok.

do you think cold blue would work on matte nickel rings?
just got a new scope for my hunting rig (up sized to 30mm tube-bitch to find Redfield rings for my gun) don't need to look tier 1, just don't want nickel rings on hunting rig. |

Buy new rings. You'll have to pay a lot extra to have the nickel stripped before the rings can be blued. This would likely exceed the cost of new rings. If you're really in a money crunch, spray paint the rings the color of your choice, and touch up as needed.
