[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Can anybody identify the unit markings on these old german photos?

So I'm trying to find as much info as I can to verify that Steyr M95s and varients were used by nazi germans. In all of my searching I can only find about 2 photos, this is one.

They have insigians on their helmets, can anybody identify what unit or kind of unit they are in?

The marks and guns are somewhat obscure.

They are Heer (Army) soldiers, but it's impossible to tell their unit from what's shown in the photo.

The insignia on their helmet is the just the German tricolor shield. It was applied to most Wehrmacht helmets in the early war period, but was phased out as the war progressed.

Here's another photo for you.

It shows RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst) auxiliaries armed with Steyr M95s being trained in ski patrolling on the Eastern Front.

Is it just me or does this guy look a lot like "Higgins" from Magnum P.I.?
ETA: It looks like most of those guys are carrying long rifles, not M95/30 carbines, that seems odd as as the name implies most M95s got retrofitted in 1930.
