I'm thinking about upgrading the barrel on my 10/22 to a Butler Creek Carbon Fiber Barrel.

Input from those with experience with carbon barrels would be appreciated.

Never had one, but to warn you, its not CF, its plastic with a CF finish.

I have one of these, Combat_jack is correct, it's a plastic covering, not CF. Mine isn't even as accurate as a factory barrel. But I keep it because it is so light.

I don't remember the URL, but there is a very active rimfire forum someplace. There was a lot of discussion about these barrels there some time ago, and several of them for sale, in fact I think some were offered if the buyer would just pay shipping.

Mine was way off.  I sent it back.

go to www.rimfirecentral.com.  you'll find out everything you'll ever need about the 10/22.

Thanks for the info...after a little research; I found alot of negative reactions to the BC 'carbon' barrel.

Via rimfirecentral.com, I found a reference to lightweight aluminum barrels from whistle pig.  Anybody have experience with them?

whistle pig bbls are nice but you cant shoot high velocity ammo out of it.

they are aluminum with steel inserts for rifling.

tactical solutions also offers a lw bbl. along with volquartsen

The Tactical Solutions' barrel is aluminum with steel inserts also....there was nothing on Whistle Pig's website about avoiding high velocity ammo.

Please confirm.

I have the Volquartzen Carbon Fiber barrel with muzzle brake.  Very nice barrel.  I am still waiting to get my Hogue overmolded stock for it.  Can't wait!

Thanks for all the input.  I decided on a 18" Whistle Pig barrel.  For me, it was the right weight, quality, and price.
