I was just looking at all the pictures posted here of these pimped out 10/22's and thought to myself, "Is that all just for looks? I wonder what the MOA is at 100 yds?" It's deffinitely a cool concept, though. Cheap ammo for sure.

I had a very pimped out 10/22 one time - in fact the only Ruger part left was the bolt, and it had been heavily worked. BR stock, 32 power Sightron scope, KID trigger, etc. With $10/box ammo, like Lapua Midas L, no wind, and lots of luck it MIGHT have held 1 MOA at 100 yards. At 50 yds and the right ammo & conditions it would routinely group < 3/8", but IMO 100 yds is too much distance to get consistent good groups with a .22.

Edited to add: Almost any tricked out 10/22 with a quality aftermarket barrel should keep decent ammo printing at 1/2 " at 50 yds - much better than the average stock 10/22.

I have to shoot dimes at 50 yards for it to be even remotely challenging. Nothing special either, fluted BC barrel, 40$ scope. Any decent barrel and a steady hand will drive tacks at 50 yards.

Strange how some people at the range look at my targets and realize I'm not shooting at any of the bullseyes but at little stickers I place all over them. Get the little neon pricetag stickers about the size of a nickle, those seem to be perfect.

Agreed. Given the ballistics behind the little .22LR, it's really dropping fast at 100M.

My groups are a ragged hole at 50 yds with Subsonic rounds.
Love my pimped out 10/22, always gets attention at the range, but wish I hadn't spent as much as I did.

thank God for this thread. Until now I was being WAY too harsh on the performance of my stock 10/22 *and* modded iteration. Now I see that even with super-trick mods this gun is still in fact just a .22LR I can stop pulling my hair out.

Front supported by sandbag only. 10shot group @ 50yards.

Adams & bennet 18" flutted HB
Hogue overmolded stock
Volquartsen Bolt and trigger pack
Scope was cheapo $30dollar simmons 3x9

Wolf match target ammo.

Someone more skilled could get better group. You can tell I had a breathing issue by the Up/down movement of the rounds.

FWIW - I have a hell of a lot more fun shooting my AR15 with a .22 conversion kit than I ever did with the Frankenruger.

I've got a moderately tricked out 10/22. Threaded Douglas match barrel, match chamber, carefully bedded action and partial barrel. Using Eley ammo ( it prefers pistol match) it'll group a ragged hole at 50, well under .5" outside to outside. run things out to 100 and it struggles to hold 1.25" CTC.

It seems the .22s are primed for 50 yards. You don't see much talk about 100 yard comparisons. YMMV

Aside from trigger jobs and proper assembly, the 10-22 only needs 3 basic things to perform well: A barrel with a bentz-match chamber, bolt face recess shortened to .042", and Good Ammo.

Mine really likes Eley Tenex, with both Wolf and Aguila Standard Velocity a close second.
