Sorry, I am sure this has been debated here before.  I did a quick search and came up dry.

I know it's the old 870/590 debate.

I am just going to use it for HD, no double duty as a hunting gun. I like the extra two rounds in the mossy, but I like the ghost ring sight of the Rem.  I have been out of the scatter-gun world for 20 years.  I remember that the Rems always had a better rep then the old mossy 500.  Is this still the case?  About the only add-on I want is maybe a PG stock, maybe a Speed Feed.  Any other recommendations or comments....

Thanks for putting up with me,

I have had a Mossberg 500 and the 590.  Both are good shotguns.  However, the Remington 870 (which I now own), is by far the best.  It has a smoother action, better fit and finish, better sights, and there are a million accessories available for it.

Checkout the Lasermax LMS 1202 when you get a chance.  It fits on the 870 tactical and gives you a flashlight and a laser all in one just for this shotgun since it has the 2-shot extension.   You can't go wrong with a Remington 870.  Most police agencies use them over all other shotguns.

Get the 870 and sell the breacher choke for $40-$50 and replace it with a modified choke. You get a great shotgun with a $40-$50 rebate

I have one of those 870's on the way. I went with it because of the ability to change chokes so I can shoot skeet with my taticool gun.

However I could have found a 590A1 I would have went with that, the ghost sites are better on the A1 and its parked.

You can't go wrong with either but I would say get the 870 if you want a gun now since its in stock and the 590 is out of stock.

The 870

-Barrel thread for choke tubes
-Factory +2 extension
-Short factory forend allows easy mods
-18" barrel is easy to maneuver
-Receiver already tapped if you later add optics

That's a lot of shotgun at that price.

Thanks for the replies.  I guess it's the 870.
