Ours issued 870's but upgraded a few years back. Now we issue Benelli M2's with 14" barrel

Around here, its almost exclusively Remington 870 Police Magnums in both 18.5 and 20 inch barrel lengths with Speed Feed III stocks and bead sights. However, Mossberg 590A1's are used by several of the smaller agencies. One of the small town/suburban agencies is extremely well funded and uses Benelli M4's in 18.5 and 14 inch barrel lengths. They have a serious love affair with the "latest and greatest" which explains the HK G36's/416's/UMP's in the hands of a PD that is responsible for policing a small town of 18,000 persons....
By far, the 870 and Mossberg 500 series are the most popular shotguns in American LE. Occasionally, smaller agencies might have "left over" Winchester 1200/1300 Defenders, Ithaca M37's or even Histandard Flite Kings. The latter two are still seen in service with the LAPD. |

LAPD just swapped to the Remington 870P. NYPD uses Mossberg 590A1s. It's a shame that all those LAPD Ithacas will be destroyed. LAPD has used the Ithaca 37 since the early 60s.

My local PD just got rid of all theirs. ( I was able to buy one, An 870 Remington with an extended mag ) They carry 5.56 Colt AR-15s now .

Our local Swat team issues 870's outfitted with a shorter Brl & surefire light, otherwise simular to the basic 870 express and winmasters used by patrol.

United States Border Patrol Agent on the California Border near Jacumba was carrying:
1. HK45 on his hip. 2. 14" barreled 870 parked Police Magnum w/1 shot extension and Knoxx pistol grip stock. I assume he had a rifle somewhere but I didn't see it or any ammo. |

We use a mix of Mossberg 500s, 590s, and Remington 870s. Any newer guns are 870s, with 14" barrels and rifle sights.

My school resource officer from High School said that he had an 870 in the trunk of his squad car. He never went into details about the shotgun, just that it was a 870.

Unfortunately my agency doesn't issue any shotguns, but we can buy our own as long as they are 870's. Mine is a 870P magnum with a speedfeed youth length pistol grip stock. I have the mag extension tube along with a surefire light. Also has a side saddle shell holder on it. I went with a two point VTAC sling using a Wilson Combat Mag tube adaptor for the barrel end. I apologize that I have no pics.

I can pass on the pistol grip Speedfeeds, just not my thing, but I cannot fathom anyone not absolutely loving the 14" barrel. They are complete win. |

My department issues a 11-87 in each of the cars and a Stag AR to each officer. No big complaints but I do wish they let me carry my M2 instead of the 11-87....

Local cops carry mossberg 590s with ghost ring sights AND a Bushmaster Patrolman's carbine in each squad car.
Each officer also has a 1911 .45 with 10-rd wilson mags on his person I am quite confided in my local police's ability to respond to an armed threat |
