According to mossberg "no". They say that the front sight makes it impossible to install. Although I bet with some creative tinkering, you could get it on. Is the front sight removable? Or (although it would make you bend the sheild) you could try installing it from the breech end. Maybe?

Forget about the heat shield.
Heat shields are just unnecessary extra weight.

I have a Mossberg 590. And I have put many rounds through it. Many rounds REALLY FAST. The thing simply does not heat up.

I've emptied a 590's eight round mag in rapid fire many times (easy to do with low recoil ammo) and the barrel has never heated up enough for me to not be able to rest my hand on it.

Considering the Army & Navy bought approximately 20k A1's in 04/05 (which also explains why they were almost impossible to come by during those years), I think Mossberg's left the design pretty much alone since it was developed.

Ah, I see.
Yes the aluminum trigger guard and safety are good. I already replaced the safety button on my 590. I might do the trigger guard, too.
I can live without the heavier barrel; the sumbitch is heavy enough already.

I never bothered to put my heat shield on. If I have to shoot enough to get the barrel hot the bad guy will be slippin' and slidin' in my shit too much to hurt me anyway.

Another bad side to the heat shield:IT ATTRACTS RUST!

Had one since '92 and finally just took the damn thing off a few years back,ever try to clean/oil under one?

Also do yourself a favor and get a fiberoptic bead for a 500,works great.

Yes...........install the heat shield, then have the local smith install the sights.........I did it to mine

You CAN get a Factory Heat Shield onto a Factory Ghost Ring Sighted bbl.

It takes some delicate (and not so delicate) manevering to do so.

Start with opening the front band of the camp as much as possbile.

Start mounting with shield as inverted as possible for the majority of the trip down the bbl.

If you lube the bbl REALLY well it lessens scratches to the finish (Didn't say prevents) also you do not want to take it off later , (scratches agsin)

It can be made to fit on the 590, but it will not fit on the 590A1 due to its thicker barrel.

While I agree the the 590A1 is better than the 590, the 590 still has a bayo lug. You can get a heat shield and GR sights on the 590 too.

Holy crap there's a lot a lot of flat out wrong info in this thread.
YES, the heatshield can be put on a 590A1, with a little work.

Added weight? Please. The shotgun carries 9 rounds, not including the sidesaddle or speedfeed stock. Try an all-steel 870P with similar setup if you think the 590A1 with guard is heavy.
Take a shotgun class in west Texas (or just about any part of Texas) in the summer. Heat might become an issue.
The 590 has a lug as well.
The 590A1 does NOT have "the bullshit LEO trigger."
In 7 years, I've never had rust develop under the guard. Get some spray CLP and blow it under the guard. Even if you don't, it is not that big a deal to remove it on a quarterly basis as opposed to the 10 year PMCS cycle which I wouldn't advise for ANY weapon short of ye olde pointed sticke..
