I'm looking to buy a batch of mags and curiously no one's mentioned MecGar.  Just about everywhere I've looked mecgar mags are said to be the best aftermarket mags except in the 1911 forum.  


Are the Colt factory mags GTG? What's the difference between the C and M stamped?

MecGars simply are not a player in the 1911 field, as there are much better choices.

Colt mags are ok for what they are, but many refuse to use any 1911 magazine with a metal follower.

I only have one, but it's been 100% for over a year.

I like pretty much any mag on the market, provided it's been rebuilt with Tripp springs and followers.  Even my Wilson Combats and Chip McCormicks are MUCH better since being rebuilt.  My favorite for flush-fitting mags is to get whatever cheap body I can find, Colt, Triple K (repackaged Colt), Kimber (not KimPro) or whatever, and rebuild them with Tripp springs and followers.  Cheaper than buying Tripp mags and 100% reliable with a nice stout steel body.

I've heard that polly followers can get gouged over time...but that's it

My understanding is that metal followers of a certain type can gouge the frame. Especially a concern with alloy frames.

I use Chip McCormick 8 rounders for years and have had no problems.

I can say without a doubt they are built like a dam little Tank
Function is perfect mine came with SA1911..9mm. I believe you
could drive a car over them like them dum videos & it
would still work. NO I'm not going to try on mine.

I have no knowledge of them in 45 but as far as the 9's
I do not think you will find a stronger mag..in fact I know you
will not find a stronger more durable mag.

FOR THE RECORD: When I purchased the SA 1911 in 9mm, the first thing
I intended to do was order some Wilson's because I have 8 of them for
other 1911's but after some range I realized there was no need to.
I'm going to buy somemore but NOT th replace MecGar. That would be stupid!

Only thing I don't like about them ? Is
the mags are difficult to manually empty/clear
The front side of the mag is a little higher which
cause's you (to have to)  lift the round just a hair of the
top round. It just takes a little practice. It's not hard just
a little different from the other mags I have.. IMO
