I'm new to the handgun world and just bought myslef a Springfeild 1911 milspec.
The question I have is how many of you carry your 1911's for cc and what holsters do you use?

I carry a Springfield TRP in a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 with a Milt Sparks single mag carrier pouch on a Milt Sparks gunbelt.  All in black, of course.  I am thinking about picking up a 5-stitch Wilderness Instructor belt, though.

no pics until I get it refinished, but a Les Baer Stinger in a tan VM II.....unless I'm out fishing.  I carry the SA PX9109L (park'd, loaded) in the same rig when there's a possibility of the infamous 'tragic boating accident'.

I carry a 1911 often wearing shorts and t-shirts.  I use a Rusty Sherrick IWB holster.  It conceals the gun nicely.  Rusty is very customer service oriented and easy to deal with.  I use his holsters for all 4 of my pistols.  I recommend him highly.  HTH

Older pic, but I had to add to the overwhelming concensus that the Milt Sparks VM II is the only way to go!

Still a fan of Rusty's dead horse products, I tap him whenever I need an oddball gun holster, I was one of the first with a FN Five seveN IOM holster thanks to him.

I should hopefully have my Milt Sparks VM2 holster for my TRP Operator this week or next. It’ll probably be next week. I had one for my USP Tactical and liked it a lot. This time however, I ordered the right belt (1.5” instead of 1.25”).

I'm a big fan of Garrity's Gunleather.  He has a great holster called the Changeling, which allows the cant to be adjusted.  He is well known for his top notch crafstmanship.  Though he is not cheap, he is nowhere near as expensive as most others in his league.  Checkout his site.  I'm picking up a hoilster from him tomorrow, and hopefully I'll be getting a Changeling soon.

Just thought I’d share my joy! My Milt Sparks VM2, belt, and double mag carrier are shipping today! I placed the order back on June 27th, but it’s worth the wait. I’ll Stick it in the holster and post pics when it arrives!

Dave Workman's T-Bar Too:

I've been carrying a 1911A1 IWB in one for a while.  I can also highly recommend Dave.  Each holster is custom hand made when you order it, made from horsehide.  Dave's, well, he'd tell you he's an (expletive deleted) but he's a darned good guy and very active with SAF and CCRKBA in Washington State.

D&D Gunleather

I don't make any money off of this, heck, he doesn't even know I'm posting it here, but until you've tried one of his holsters, you just don't know what you're missing.

Oh, when I'm driving, I use a Wilderness Safepacker that slips very nicely between the center console and the transfer case lever in the truck.

Is the operator a different size than other 1911 (1913 etc) VM2 holster?

The Operator has a built-in light rail.  None of the holsters for a standard 1911 will work.

In fact, I just found out that Milt-Sparks is so carefuly fitted that even a regular Springfield Armory 1911 will not fit in a generic 1911 holster from SA.  It seems SA made their dust cover a bit larger in 2000 and any made after that has a different mold from Sparks.  When you order from Sparks, they actually need to know exactly what gun you have and will get you the exact holster you need.

BTW... while I like the VM-II and the SS, I just bought a BN-55 and it is now my favorite.  Its OWB, but if you have a cover garment, it still conceals well and is MUCH more comfortable.

I'll probably get a Surefire X200 or whatever that popular model is that fits standard rails.

This is my favorite holster to date.  I've had a VMII and it was nice but not my favorite.  Sorry I don't have one for a 1911 yet to show pics of.  It's a Fist #21 A which adjusts from canted IWB to crossdraw IWB.  I think it was about $110.
