I've been wanting a 6 inch longslide 1911 for many years, and just ordered myself one as a late x-mas gift.  Just wondering if anyone has any experiences with these...they sure look cool if nothing else!! Thanks

The first 1911 I ever shot was one of these, and it was awesome. Still to this day I think that this particular gun I shot was easier to hit what you wanted with than any other centerfire pistol I've ever shot.  BD

ETA; This was in the real late 90's so I don't know how these guns compare to the ones made today.

Only 1911 long slide I've shot was an AMT Hardballer when they first came out.
It was a decent gun, but I'd prefer your SA model.

decent guns, the last batch that i've seen at stores have been "N" marked guns.  i haven't seen "NM" marked longslides in a while.

I've personally never shot one, but I had the chance to handle one a show last weekend.  Not only do they look amazing they are extremely well balanced.  Please post pics and range report when it comes in!!

Well< i have no experience with Springfield's offering, however my 6inch is a super sweet shooting with very soft recoil. great thing to shoot.
You will love how it shoots.

That is a beautiful pistol, and thanks for the replies.  Don't suppose you have any advice for holsters that cover these longslides?

I fairly regularly shoot a friends "N" marked longslide. It is a fantastic shooting pistol...the trigger has been touched up a little. It's on the must have list.

For those that posted pics of their longslides in this thread, can you tell us which brands they are?

Very nice 1911's

O.K., Now I need some real HELP! with my new longslide.  I am trying to field strip it, and have the slide off the frame, after unscrewing and removing the full length guide rod out of the end.  I can't figure out how to get this almost full length shroud (that the recoil spring runs through)  out so I can remove the barrel?.  It will not fit through the muzzle end of the gun, and when I back it all the way to the barrel link, it still does not allow me to lift it out, so I can slide the barrel out of the end of the slide....What am I doing wrong??

I did, to no avail.  In communicating with folks on the M1911.Org forum, it seems this may be a re-occurring issue requiring the pistol to be sent back.  Others who have sent theirs back indicate the reverse plug/and or cover is too long.  At this point I just hope the turn-around time is not too long & painful.  Will call SA on Monday, what a bummer
