So I go to the range today and as the guy is checking me in, I look at the rentals on the wall. I remembered so many people saying "you either love 'em or hate 'em" ...and I wondered which I was. So I rent a G21 and 100 rounds of ammo and decided to find out. I think it was a 2nd generation ...finger grooves, but no rail. (sound right?)
I start with my 1076 and shot up all my 10mm ammo, put up a new target, load the G21, and quickly found out I'm a "love 'em" kind of guy. The trigger was a little soft, but far from the over-used "squishy" description I've seen from many ...and nothing worse than most SA/DA or DAO pistols I've shot. The grip was a little big, but nothing my short(er), chubby fingers couldn't handle. So now I've decided my next handgun will be a Glock, but what caliber? ...what size? I may have to do more "research" at the range.  Any input would be appreciated.

depends on what you are using it for, targets, get the full size, for carry, get the compact...caliber?...whatever you feel comfortable with.........I bought the Glock 26 9MM for carry, and the damn thing shoots 4-5" left.............and the glock triggers are mushy...........

I have a Glock 19 and I love it. Almost 100% reliable so far, I have over 2000 rounds through it and it had a FTE once with cheap ammo. Oh well what are you going to do? Shoots very accurately, pop cans at 100 feet are pretty easy. Cleans easily. All around a great gun.

I have a Glock 30, which is a compact .45 with 10 round magazines instead of the Glock 36 which is slimmer but only holds 7(?) rounds. Its had somewhere near 1500 rounds and has had one FTE, CHEAP remanufactured ammo(maybe limp wristing too). Glock is a great choice, very simple, reliable, accurate, and VERY easy to clean. If you're not going to be doing any carrying get a fullsize(179mm,2010mm,21.45ACP,22.40S&W,31.357Sig) I'm pretty sure those are the fullsized ones and their calibers. If you might be carrying then look into the compacts and subcompacts.

Where did you shoot at? Select Fire? I have the Glock 23 .40 its a n=midsize and really conseals well with high cap and good stopping power I tihnks its what your looking for. At the next meet you can take a look at mine, just let me know. |

Use would be primarily paper punching and home defense. Size isn't really an issue ...I was capable of handling the fatter grip, and I'd prefer the option of hi-caps. There'll be no concealed carry, at least until MD State Police get their heads out of their asses.
M4 ...I'll take you up on your offer at the next shoot ...if we can pin down a date/time. Select-Fire was the range ...the only affordable indoor range around. |

Until the ban ends the hi caps for the 10 are either REALLY expensive or impossible to get, the 45s are better but still a lot of money. You might want to try one of the regular sized Glocks with the thinner grips, like 9mm or 40 ones. I don't mind the 21 and like mine, but there is a big difference between the two. The magazines for 9mm Glock 17 are reasonably easy to find and the ones for the full size 40 are okay also. I think the 40 magazines would also work with the 357 sig versions is you like that caliber.

Try the glock 34 and 35. I think you will like the 3.5# connector. I shoot a glock 35 in uspsa/ipsc competition and it's a great gun for accuracy and rapid fire.

I didn't think that I would like them either. Then I got a G26 for carry and love it. Concealy easily even in summer wear and is surprisingly accurate. I actually shoot it as well, maybe better than my full size USP.

Shooters: G34 (9mm) and G35 (.40)
Carry/Shooters: G19 (9mm) and G23 (.40) Carry: G26 (9mm), G27 (.40) The upside of the .40 and .357SIG models is you can buy a .357 sig or .40 S&W bbl (~$140), and be able to shoot either caliber, for way less than the price of buying two guns. My G27 gets carried everyday, and I keep the G35 in a vehicle safebox and by the nightstand. Good luck, and welcome to your new addiction. |

I always thought they were ugly and I believed every bad story I heard or read about Glocks. Then I bought a 17, then a compact, then another model 17 because my wife and son like the Glocks. They are habit forming.
My only complaint is that the mags don't always drop free when I am shooting IPSC and IDPA. I would carry one in a heartbeat. |

While the Hicaps for the model 20 (10mm) are way over priced, its a great pistol. I have one of the 1st gen model 20's (and thankfully several hicaps) and it is VERY accurate - 1 inch groups at 25 yards freehand with handloads using the factory 5# trigger (which leaves a bit to be desired).
Also, you already have a 10mm so you wouldnt have to worry about another caliber. I have or have had glocks in every caliber and size, other than the 40 cals I have been universally impressed (I know they've improved the 40's, but I'm so happy with the 45, 10 and 9's that I cant see reloading for another caliber). Cant disagree with any of the other posts as well. For carry a mid sized model 19 is hard to beat. I have a model 26 but after putting a grip extender on it I really only save 1/2 inch on the barrel length - so if I had to by one I'd get a 19 over the 26 sized pistols. I shoot a 34 in matchs and love it. Just figure out what youre gunna use it for and there's definitely a Glock that will fit your needs. |

If you are going to punch paper, the G34 is a great way to go! The longer barrel and the adjustable rear sight are BIG pluses. Also, I think it would fit your hand well.

I'd also recommend 19/23 if you want a true jack of all trades Glock pistol. (Dad has 34. You can't beat 34 with a 19 for target shooting...talk about perfect balance)
I have one in 19 and I have about 5k rounds through it, and I've have had one FTE because of operator error. I think that was with Winchester value pack ammo. I've had it for a year and 3 months and I've only detail-stripped ONCE. All others were "field-stripping". |

Of all the Glock models, my favorite is still the Model 17 9mm. It seems to be the most reliable and trouble-free of the Glock family and with 9mm loads is pleasant to shoot. I have a buddy who has a model 21 and it stings to shoot it. For some reason the Glock 45's have quite a bit of felt recoil. And I grew up on .357's shooting full power loads, so it must be the lightweight and grip angle of the Glock. With the .40 cal's and .357 Sig's you have the KB issue (whether this is a concern for you or not is up to you). And I could never hit a bull in the arse with the subcompact models. So yep, I'd say the original Glock, the Glock 17 is about the best way to go. If the ban sunsets we will again have access to good quality, cheap mags that will bring us up to a total 18 round capacity. Not bad.

up to 15 years ago, you couldn't give me one of those ugly suckers. then i shot one. then i bought one. first a 17, then a 26. summer or winter, got it covered. had i purchased a 19 first, i may have needed no more.
cases of 9's later, had only one FTF. bad primer. rotated the cartridge 180 in the chamber and it fired. was surprised it did. me and them ugly suckers get along quite well, thank you. still want an old 19 with mags. |

Good decision. I have a 19 and a 23. The 19 is a primary house gun, and is within arm's reach of my wife at all times. Hi-cap mag makes it even more comforting for her. The 23 is my primary 'go somewhere' gun, and is on my waist most of the time. Hard to beat the combo. 9mm with lighter recoil, high capacity for the wife. 40S&W for hunting and personal defense. If you want a cheap shooter/ bedside gun get the 34.
You already have a 1076. Don't you trust it for bump-in-the-night duty? Seems like a G20 (same frame as a G21) would be the perfect compliment to your 1076. I guess if you don't reload yet you could get a 9mm. If you are not going to carry get the 34 or at least 17. Much easier to shoot accurately. |

The 1076 is more than capable of bedside duty, and I'm capable shooting it ...we make a nice couple. Besides, the GF can't shoot the 1076, so the G19 would give her something to practice with, and something cheaper for me to shoot. I don't reload, so the 10mm can get expensive if I put a lot of rounds through it.Carry isn't an option, as I'm from the Socialist Republic of Maryland. |

The G21 is SWEET.
I'm not a Glock fan (but I do have a 17), generally speaking, but the first time I fired a 21 (belonging to my uncle, who is the family firearms guru and hot shot), neither he nor I could believe the groups I was shooting with that sucker. 50 feet, two inches or less, full magazine groups. (high cap.) What can I say? That gun just WORKS for me, and there's no denying it. I'm very hard pressed to shot as well with my 1911, and I'm very used to its particular way of shooting. In fact, I have to be honest and say I shoot better with the G21. Doesn't mean I love my 1911 any less, but truth is truth and a wise man acknowledges it. I still don't really like some aspects of Glocks, especially the idea of a plastic frame, but how can I arge with a reliable, simple design that puts the bullets right where I want them, every time? I don't WANT to love them, but I sort of HAVE to. CJ |

The only Glock I have really liked was one that belonged to an Anchorage PD officer. They carry G21s and he had a Robar grip modification done on his with the full beaver-tail and all.
The gun was comfortable to shoot and didn't cut my hands like standard Glocks do. And it was accurate too...I was ringing steel out to 90 yards with the thing and using very little effort too. His pistol was a much better one than the G17 I owned and was much more comfortable to shoot than my G32 was. |

I own a 17,33 and a 31. My wife has informed me to never sell the 17 and I agree with her completely. I love my 33 and 31 the extra recoil seems to just allow a firmer grip in my hand. Both my 33 and 31 allow me to scare the hell out of clay pigeons at a 100 yards--lots of fun!!!!!!

Better than spray silcone is Plexus. It's a plastic/glass cleaner used for airplane windsheilds. It cleans all plastic and Glass but you must use a towel, no paper towels. It will clean the haze from the inside of windsheilds, remove the glue residue from stickers, everything.
Oh yeah it makes platic slick as heck and will not attract dirt. Lots of the glock guys in the know swear by this stuff for IPSC/USPSA. You can order it online from various places or find it a paintball stores. Paintballers use it to clean their goggles. Oh yeah it works wonders for your glasses too. |

Good choice Cerebus haveThe G17 was my 1st Glock and I truly loved it. I was in the market a year later for a new .45 and sice I liked my G17 I figured I try a 21. I liked it even better than my G-17. I already had a para P-14 and a Springfield Trophy Match and even though these are great weapons, I just liked shooting the G-21 better and was better at combat shooting with it.
I finally quit using my Para Race gun and changed to Limited Div. for USPSA matches and have never regreted it. It has a titainium stryker, 3.5 disconnector, SS uncaged guiderod and wolf springs. Hi Viz front site, Seattle slug and extended mag release. I just like the feel and angle of the grip and the trigger is almost single action in feel. I think you will be happy |

Good choice!!
I have had a first generation 21 for 12 years. I have never modified the grip and it has no rail. Early on I changed the sights, I put millet adjustable sights on it. It is very similar to what you see now on the HK tactical 45's. I guess I was a trend setter? Large, tall front blade and big adjustable rear sight. All black. Sort of a magnum version of the sights on a Ruger MKII target. This setup gives me a lot of control over accuracy combined with trying different loads. Also, I have put reloads through it for 12 years. 200 grain wadcutters are great for paper punching when you need a break from 230 grain. I can run pretty quickly with that set up on paper or steel plates, and it makes a good house gun with a surefire light in my hand. I am not big on night sights, but my brother says I should get another upper for it or 3rd gen 21 all together with night sites. I am convinced the next purchase is a 26 for carry and the 20 (10mm) so I can play with reloads for it. The more I read about 10mm, the more I like it. I think my wife needs a 34! |

I finally held a glock a few weeks ago. G34 I believe. I didn't get a chance to fire it but damn is it ever light.
However...when I took up a shooting position with the same grip I use on my Hi-Power or PT-99..the muzzle was pointing at the ground. I guess I'm one of the can't like it guys... |

Agree w/the good choice! My bedside is a G19 w/Hogue handall. I like the size small enough to conceal and big enough to shoot accurately. I have heard lots of people comment that they shoot the G26 BETTER than the 17 or 19. Go figure. If I had to carry concealed (a no no in MO) I'd get a 26 too. I really like 9mm because I don't feel under gunned and it's cheap to shoot lots of it.
The G29 (size of 19, 10mm) might be something to look at too. I liked my G20 but traded it to get a .17 pistol. |
