i have a 226, usp40, usp45 in stainless.  i'd like a black 45 to do a lot of practice shooting.  i like the sig and hk both.

i'm weighing options like the mag costs (i'll buy several), model specific laser/lite costs, etc., etc., etc....

experienced feedback wanted!

thanks,

s. tank

Dude I'm addicted to my HKs....I own 3 USPs and a P7m8. You can always use another USP!

I'll trade you my brand new USP .45 HE for your stainless :)

I don't have much experience with the H&K, but I LOVE my 220ST. Now my only problem is figuring whether I'm going to buy that H&K varient 1 or the new 220 SAO.

Love both.  Carried a USP45F for 5 years daily.  I'm now carrying a 220 and sometimes a 226.
Hard to decide there.......my USP ran flawless, period.  And it was as accurate as the 220.  Recently had the extractor replaced (by Sig's awesome service: Mailed on Monday and got it back a week to the day, at no cost) and I missed it dearly when it was gone.  Tough one but I don't think you'd go wrong with either choice.  The HK mags are more expensive but higher capacity as well.  It was hard for a skinny boy to carry double stack mags and I'm alot more comfortable with single stackers.

Had both, But still own only the Sig P220. The USP45 was a reliable weapon, but felt very "Plasticky". A polymer frame is one thing, but I regret their decision to go with a polymer trigger.

If you MUST have 12 rounds capacity, go with the HK, but if you want a .45 you will really enjoy shooting, I say go with the P220. I would not trade my all-German-made P220 for anything.

P220 mags can be had for $12-$20 in good shape, Sig is even making an extended 10 rounder now.
H&K mags, as all things H&K, seem to be unobtainable for less than $40.They are now making a P220 with a standard 1913 rail, whereas the USP still uses the proprietary rail IIRC.

It's really a personal choice, both fine pistols, but the P220 was it for me.

I can only comment on the Sig and the Glock as I've never owned an HK. If it were me I believe I would probably side with the Sig due mostly to ergonomics. With that said if Glock produced a single-stack full-size .45 ACP it would be a whole different matter.

ahhh

tough choice

if it boiled down to it, i would rather have the HK as its a double stack 45acp

while the SIG P220 is nice to shoot, i prefer 1911s for a single stack 45

get both!

I own a Sig 220, my older brother owns a HK. Both are great pistols. Get which one fits your hands better. Cant go wrong with either of these excellent pistols.

No question, USP black. Fullsize has 12 rds over the Sig 7/8 rds max w/o the ugly extended mags. Accuracy will be better, as you probably already know. No question at all which to get, IMO.

The USP is the only one to pick.

This has not been my experience. The P220 I have I found to more accurate than the USP45 I owned, at 25 yards, with the same cartridge.

Do you have any empirical evidence that the HK USP45 is inherently more accurate that the P220?

Other than shooter related factors like trigger and grip preference, I have never seen any test results that would indicate this to be the case.

i should have mentioned the trigger as well...  i'm not much on the HK trigger.  after shooting precision rifles and target rifles its hard to get used to it.  i suppose this might be the case regardless of pistol manufacturer, but if one has a first rate trigger or better yet, a way to replace parts or be smithed to achieve a better trigger i'd be all ears.

i didn't mention it earlier, but i even considered a para ord in single action...

 be kind...

+1 and to be honest believe it or not my cheap 10rd promag has worked great so far. The ACT Novaks are the way to go though.

In reference to your question, I have 2 HK's (USP40c & USP45) and 3 Glocks (22,21,26).

They are all great and work wonderfully.

For me, personally, I prefer the HK USP to the Glock in reference to hand fit, operating system, trigger feel.

However, I like the value proposition of the Glocks with respect to low cost magazines, lego-like interchangeability with vast quantities of inexpensive parts available including swapping uppers, etc.

I can hold my Glock 21 in one hand and the USP45 in the other and get the feeling that the USP45 is just better (for me).

I get happy vibes from the USP's.

220ST with five mags...Well it will be mine in 14 years, right now the department owns it. I will be adding a SW99 in .45 to my stable soon.
