I have about $600-700 to spend. I currently have a Sig 239 9mm.  Here is my dilemma. I want more power than the 9mm. But I also want the best bang for my buck. I also want more guns (because who doesn't).

I am interested in a 1911, well...because its 1911. Everyone speaks highly of them, there has to be a reason.

1911s are great, I love them. But they are still the reliable, stodgy old warhorse. The XD is the evil european sports car your mother told you to stay away from.

decisions, decisions.

Get both!

Um....you can get a used-but-serviceable remington 870 for $200 or less.

With that, you can certainly afford to spend a little more for something more than a Rock Island 1911.

Since you have $600-700 to spend, why don't you upgrade your options? You can easily afford a Springfield Loaded 1911 and have money to spare. You will be better off than buying a XD or Rock Island.

You ought to take a look at the SA GI-45 micro compact. My friend Bill got the SA GI .45 micro (new) at a gun show for $399. It's a sweet little 1911.

Buy a used P7M8 for your $700. Damn near perfect guns, hands down the best mass produced gun in the last 20-30 years, IMO.

Well, not a big fan of .40, so for me the XD in .40 is out for me.

IMO, .40 is a comprimise round. And not a very good one. Go with .45, or up to 10MM if you need more power.

The 1911? If you have $600 to spare, why are you worrying about a Rock Island 1911?

IMO, it may not be the best choice for a first time 1911. I've just heard way too many mixed reviews out of them.

For the money you can get a Loaded Springfield, or for just a few bucks more you could get a Kimber (their Custom Classics aren't much more than that).

What do you plan on doing with the pistol(s)?    In my opinion it is better to have a few quality pieces rather than a closet o crap.  You could always save up some more and have some better choices/options for a 1911.  Didn't see that one on the poll.  Lots of guys I shoot/compete with are liking xd's but in 9mm.     I don't see anything wrong with a sig 9mm either.  Good luck

Well...it seems I have opened up a can of worms. with this. I was not sold on the RIA 1911, but they were cheap and some people tend to like them. After reading your responses, I think the RIA has been effectively ruled out.

I want the gun for the house. And of course going to the range. The 239 will be my carry gun (don't have my permit yet). So concealment is not an issue.

The XDs feel really comfortable in my hand, thats why I was looking at those. Glocks just don't feel good to me.

I was also looking at the various Sigs (pre owned) at CDNN. I see the 220 and 229 for under $500. People seem to be raving about those. Since I really like my 239, should i stay in this vicinity? A 1911 can be had later, bonus time is only a few months awayheck

After getting burned a time or two as a gun rookie, I learned to buy the best gun I could afford to buy. That rules out Rock Island, IMO.

If you already have one Sig & like it a lot, get another, IMO.
