I'd like to purchase a high-capacity 1911 (something that holds between 10-15rds .45ACP).
I've looked around at Springfield, Colt, Rock River, and Para Ordnance, and Para seems to be the only ones with models holding 10-15rds.

Any opinions on Para? Also, has anyone shot their LDA (long double-action) models? How does this trigger compare to a DA revolver or glock trigger?

Springfield is almost the same as Para, I think. I shot the LDA, and its pretty sweet, but I still prefer SA.

Which Springfield models hold more than 7 or 8 rounds? I was looking on their website and for the life of me could only find the single stack guns

Combat_Jack: Could you tell me a little more about the LDA trigger? Does it have the same long, deliberate draw of a revolver or glock? Or is there very little uptake, but it requires more pressure?

I've heard the Kimbers are great guns, but I was wanting to stay around $800.

I honestly can't remember the specifics of the LDA trigger, I just remember thinking that it really was a nice trigger.

How could I? Their least expensive double-stack .45 has an MSRP of ~$1600 something. I love the fact that their made in Texas, right down the road from me, but if money only grew on trees!

Unfortunately, as nice as they tend to pull, the reset is awful on them, and I found myself short stroking the trigger on the reset.

An overly complex solution that found a problem only with those that lose sleep at night worrying about lawsuits and not wanting to spend money on training IMHO.

I even plan on getting a 1911 if I ever get enough evil rifles to satisfy me. Hi cap 10mm custom job probably.

My Kimber is mostly sitting these days, I dont carry it, its a nice gun but doesnt get much use.

Kimber Stainless Ten II sells for around $600-$650

Springfield Armory High Capacity should sell for around the same $
Can use Para mags.
Just a couple alternatives to the Para.
Dan Wesson also makes one, but I don't know much about it.

had a p14 lightweight for years and finally sold it. nothing wrong with it; just seemed a little bulky and awkward. seemed i was always dropping the mag- the button stuck out like 4".

when i get my next 1911, it'll be single stack. i got big hands, but they just feel better, faster.

lda seems like a pisspoor solution to a non existant problem.

That Sprinfield is really large in the hand, bigger and heavier than any of the other manufacturers.

tag. I'll post a pic of my Kimber Ultra 10 later tonight. It's a wee little pistol that I carry every day now. It replaced my other Kimber cause it's exactly the same size and holds 3 more rounds.

I have one of the Springfield doublestacks. I like it much better than the Para I used to have. I can't find aftermarket grips for it though

Para Ordinance Limited series guns are SA, also on my list of things to buy. I like the new Para Ord Limited with the bigger extractor, more capacity than a USP and the feel of a 1911, no plastic. Cant go wrong with para ordinance.

I can get STI's (dont know which model) at the local gun shop who has nazi prices, for $1000 NIB. Probably the best deal this guy has since all his other guns are a $100 or more overpriced.

I have a Para P1445 - No problems to report after nearly 10 years and a couple thousand rounds. I'm thinking about buying a new 1445 Limited, after I get some other toys out of the way...

Some people don't like the large grip. I'd check one out in person before you buy one, if possible. I like mine just fine though, and having 14+1 rounds of .45 available is pretty nice. I don't like the LDA myself - SA cocked and locked for me too!! However, I don't usually carry it except maybe in winter when I can conceal it easier.

I shot the LDA this last weekend for the 1st time and completely agree with your reveiw. I was all over the target with that trigger. I too found the trigger to be sweet when dry firing it but finally shooting changed my opion fast. Maybe after a 1000rds one could figure it out but for now I'll pass.

I do like that Kimber BP10. They are going for $549 on Gunbroker, best deal out there IMHO in quality US made 1911's.

I believe the wood is relieved on the inside top of the grip. I'll double check tonight though. Local noname gunsmith (not the best around) put it on for me since I'm a lefty. Gun came with the wood factory and night sites.

I was wrong. Lower portion of the safety does not come in contact with the grip at all. The grips aren't modified at all.
