  Hello!....

       I have a Colt 1911 Government Model stainless .45 series 80 MKIV.....how do you go about removing the safety...I have purchased a Chip McCormick ambi safety and am lost as how to even get started installing it......Thanks everyone!

The McCormick safety is not a drop in part. It usually needs to be fitted. To asnwer your question seperate the slide from the frame. Remove the grips (not required), cock the hammer, move the safety up and down (quickly) while pulling the safety away from the frame. To reinstall do in reverse order but you will have to depress the plunger to get the safety flush with the frame.

Agreed.

The safety is a part that you might want functioning properly, especially on a 1911.  And if you don't even know how to take the factory safety off, there's no way you should be fitting an aftermarket.
