I have gotten some great prices on XD's in 9mm and 40cal. This will be my 1st pistol purchase and i wanted to know the pro and cons of the two types of frames and claibers.

i have the .40 in the 4" frame, i love it....plus...you can guy the .357sig barrel and it'll drop right in.

For 1st pistol I would go with 9mm, b/c ammo is much cheaper so you can shoot it a lot more!

+1 to the 9mm. For your first centerfire pistol, 9mm is the way to go.

I have a 4in XD-9 bi-tone. I strongly recommend a bi-tone XD-9 service(4in).

4" is a nice length since its in the middle. I would go with a .40 since it has more knockdown than a 9mm. True 9mm is cheaper but if you want to convert it later you can. The 4" will also accept all lights were as the subcompact can only use the XML light.

On the 4" guns the slide is slimmer on the 9mm. Also the 9mm holds 15rds and the 40 holds 12rds.

With reguards to price differences on 9mm and .40 you should be aware that pricing varies by source. My local gun shop sells 9mm for $7.xx and the .40 for $11.xx. Short drive away sells 9mm for $5.xx and .40 for $7.xx. The latter is purchased bulk and sold for less. I like the .40 over the 9mm.
