Local gun store has a used S&W 637 (aluminum frame, DA .38 snubby), that looks like the previous owner never shot it, or never shot it much.  Looks like new, but it's "pre-owned."  Comes with factory box, Blackhawk paddle holster, and two speedloaders.

$289 + 8% tax = $312.12 out the door.

I really don't need another snubby, but is that too good to pass up?

At that price I would buy it. They are going for $300-400 on Gunbroker and you still have to consider shipping and FFL fees.

I would. I like my 637, and that's just a little bit more $$$ than I paid, but you're getting extras.

My 637 rides my ankle every day a s a back up to a bigger gun. I never know it's there. I punched the lock and stuffed it with Spper 135gr +P's. The trigger pull on 637's is so much better than the 442/642 shrouded hammer types that it's really a very nice gun for deep concealment, you should buy it.

If it really looks that good, buy it, it's a good price.

I bought my 637 new last year at a gun show for $300.  I wouldn't give that much for a used model though.

I think I paid $340 (plus tax) for my 637 new, but that was a number years ago, so I think that is a pretty fair price.  I doubt you could haggle more than $10 or $20 off it, since I doubt the shop will have much trouble selling it for the current price.  After all, $289 for a lightly used, alloy-framed Smith seems pretty fair to me--what better gun could you get for much less?

Well, I snoozed and I loozed, or I snost and I lost, or he who hesitates gathers no moss, or something like that.  Went to the store this afternoon to buy it, and somebody less wimpy and more decisive than me had already bought it.

Damn.
Double damn.

Oh well -- gun show in a couple of weeks.
