Can someone give me some good ideas on 38 special ammo for my S&W model 66 4 inch.
Im looking for good practice rounds, and defense rounds.
Preferbaly ammo that wont break the bank either.
What types of ammo are you shooting, and what kinds of groups are you getting.

For practice, just use some ball/fmj .38 spl.  It's not too expensive.   Then get a couple boxes of some HP or +P defense loads (if your gun is rated for +P) and only fire a few rounds to check for function/accuracy.

Yes, it is a .357 mag, but I plan to mainly shoot .38 special ammo through it, and wanted some opinions.

Any .357 Magnum can handle both .38 Special and .38 +P.  Both are lower pressure rounds than the .357 anyway.  

Shoot any .38 loads with confidence in your .357.  

You can shoot any .38's, .38+, or .357's in your S&W 66.

Wal Mart has Winchester White Box ammo and Sportsman's warehouse has some good American Eagle, both for less than $10.00 a box.

I would suggest looking into a basic reloading set up like a Lee 1000 with 38/387 dies, 158 grn lead for about $19.00 for 500 bullets, 500 primers about $8.00, 1 pound of powder about $16.00, 500 rounds of 1 fired brass about $10.00....Heck you get serious and I have a extra bag of brass I will send, just pay the shipping.

It may be a $100.00 for the Lee 1000 or so but once you get set up and figure out you can crank out a couple hundred rounds for what you could have bought 50 for it is worth it.

Oh, there is a down side to reloading....Once you get it all dailed in and the costs figured out you will find out you are spending a lot more time at the range shooting and picking up brass so you can do it all again the next week.

Also, not to sound stupid, but besides the "dies" you mentioned, can this press also make rounds in some of my other favorite calibers? Can I get different dies for the same press?
