I have had this gun about a month but was sworn to secrecy by my friends at Ruger. I haven't put a ton of rounds through the gun. Frankly I haven't been able to find much ammo locally. I've only been able to find a box of the AE stuff. But I have been able to handload some for it. Not disclosing my load data but I'm using Lyman and Accurate data with a 40gr bullet. The gun shoots flat. Really no recoil to speak of. The trigger is good and measures around six pounds. Ergos are good too. Overall it should be a fun and useful pistol. Down sides? It doesn't feel "duty worthy." It is based off the LCP and Security 9 and feels somewhat budget conscious. There isn't really anything outright wrong with the gun but I don't think it'll cut into FN's sales much. More of a hobby gun rather than a military piece. I'd like to see a slight bevel to the mag well. It would also be nice to have more of a milled-in base for a red dot. One will be available but it is a bolt-on deal that sits above the slide. What are your questions? |
|
When is it going to be available?
Also, estimated street price? |
|
Does the barrel lock up or is it a blowback? Other? What is the weight of the pistol (unloaded, magazine in)? |

The gun is blowback but with a toggle affair that cams down in recoil. Barrel and slide travel backwards together a short distance. There is no cam and/or locking block on the barrel. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191231/c99e58bbe369abdb54b9e7bd334720e1.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191231/e1dab8aa26127c378d9a26e787571009.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191231/3a28396e0df4f87257df4362914cf78d.jpg View Quote |

@Melvin_Johnson How does the brass hold up.. stretching or deformation compared to the Five-seveN
|

Lever delayed blowback, like the FAMAS and Savage A17 HMR/A22 WMR?

if they make a threaded barrel will it need a booster to work?

Distributors shipped these to dealers today, as soon as they were officially allowed to tell people about them at 11am EST. I do not believe there were many shipped today, we had a few. I bought one myself and am really looking forward to it.
I do believe this gun will cut into sales of the FN 5.7. The price on the FN 5.7 is almost double that of the Ruger and lets just say the FN 5.7's haven't exactly flown off the shelves for quite some time. |

The gun shoots flat. Really no recoil to speak of.
This is one of the few "common" pistols calibers I have never shot. So, would you say the recoil is about half of 9MM? How about muzzle blast? I am not recoil sensitive, just trying to gauge. |

Quoted: That makes me wonder about the Ruger. If the FN was selling like mad with backorders piled up all over the place the Ruger would make complete sense. View Quote I know that has been true for me, and it seems like other posters in the threads about this gun have said similar. |

Quoted: IMO, the interest in 5.7 is there but not at the cost of what FN is selling. However, I doubt it sells in the volume of a standard duty caliber and that is likely why its MSRP is where it's at. I know that has been true for me, and it seems like other posters in the threads about this gun have said similar. View Quote Ruger's definitely going after the price conscious consumer with this gun. They could have made something more a direct comparison with the FN but probably not for $500-$600. With that said I assume the FN pistol will come down at least a little in price. |

So $550-600ish? Definitely in. Dammit, that makes 3 news gun releases this week that I’m dead set on purchasing.

Glock rolled the dice with the 10mm G20. They wondered if the 10mm would remain the FBI caliber of choice.
It was an interesting roll, and it must have been a doubtful time and ultimately delivered a reasonable rate of return. The G20 gave me something I didn't have (10mm). I then bought a G19, and a G34... I like the new Ruger semi-autos. I would never have predicted I would say that decades ago. The BOD of Ruger should have smothered Bill with a pillow a lot sooner. |

Quoted: They already have come down. Gun Pro Deals has the FN at $956 in cart right now with a free Inforce APL weapon light (via FN rebate) today. The question is, will this Ruger offering be worth it when you can get the FN for $300 more? View Quote The FSN has a chrome lined hammer forged barrel that has expected life of over 20K rounds. Not that most will put that, but what does Ruger rate theirs as? I could see other reasons for leaning to Ruger for the price, but I'd have to test one with the variety of ammo that is available. Hell if Ruger's Customer Service is better than FN, that might be worth the cost savings :) |

Quoted: No idea. Is the 57 really suitable as a suppressor host? Won't fouling be an issue with a blowback action? View Quote Doesn't really make the gun any dirtier than other suppressor hosts 5.7x28mm, 57gr Copper Hollow Point, (R57.SD), R&R Weapon Systems Test, CMMG MK57 5.7x28mm, 60gr FMJ, Subsonic, SB193, FN Hertsal |

View Quote It’s all about the price of the gun, it’s to high. There are some pretty awesome guns on the market for WAY under $999. I think this Ruger 5.7 is going to be a huge seller. I bet it makes 5.7 Ammo hard to find again. We are going to see deer hunters, fudds, Ruger collectors, guys wishing they could afford a 5.7 all buying these as soon as they see one. |

I bought the only box anyone had in stock and I live in a pretty good sized place with some pretty good gun shops. |

It is completely subjective of course but I noticed nothing unpleasant when shooting. Recoil is very quick but unsnappy. Blast is another deal. Quoted: Thanks! Wife use to be a deadnutsaccurate-put-a-swat-team-member-to-shame 9mm shooter but that has been a looong while. I am thinking a 9mm might bug her now and this might fit the bill. She knew the drill; three shots center chest and repeat as needed if accosted in the house with a break-in while I was gone on business. View Quote |

More regarding my earlier comment about the Ruger not being a serious duty gun:
I haven't verified it yet the sight dovetails appear to be Novak. The issue is the rear dovetail is located farther back on the slide. A standard Novak rear should fit but it'll overhang the back. A shame since being able to slap a set of Novak suppressor sights to use in conjunction with a red dot would have been nice. |

Any indication that Ruger might do a pistol caliber carbine version?
