The Ruger 22/45 has a "partial slide" or a bolt rather than a full slide like many semi-autos.

What is this gun design style called?

tube design I suppose.   its a cheap to produce design, used a lot in SMG's.  ruger might have used a cheap design, but its built like a tank, and rock solid.

An enclosed bolt, like most rifles and shotguns use.
