Might try handgun ammo forum

Corbon  +P 110 gr DPX
Speer GD  +P 135gr SB

According to winchesters gel testing the  +P 130gr bonded  looks good

For a Standard Pressure load the hornady CD 110  did well in the Dr. testing above

Duh!  Sorry.  resist enought o create any backpressure.  The bullet will be out of the barrel before your super high pressure develops.

Sounds like you want a .357 snubby. Trade up.

Is your gun rated for +P?

Either way, if it's a 5-shot, it's probably what, a 1.5-2" barrel?  You won't gain anything but more fire and concussion with the super-extra-special high-velocity loads.  Velocity gains probably won't be that much...

Any 38 +P+ will do...just buy it from a reputable company.

+P+ does not have a SAAMI rating.  Winchester's +P+ rating was pressure tested years ago at around 27,000 psi.

Why don't you try for an effective bullet design, like the 135gr Gold Dot, or the 110gr DPX instead of thinking about "more power"?

if it's a five shot is it also a super short barrel?  save your money.  the bullet wont be able to resist enough to any pressure

Speer makes .38SPL +P 135gr Short Barreled Gold Dots specifically for this. They are supposed to give better muzzle velocity for the shorter barreled guns. They make them for 9mm Luger+P, .38SPL+P .357MAG, .40S&W, .44MAG, and 45ACP. I use them in both of my J-Frames. I target practice with Speer Lawman 158gr +P and carry 135gr+P Short Barrel Gold Dots. The POI/POA are exactly the same between the two rounds.

Would you like to explain how a 125 grain .357 magnum load runs 1300 fps from a 2.25" barrel while a 125 grain +P .38 load only runs around 850 fps from the same length barrel? Lopping .375" of barrel off(the typical J frame has a 1.875" barrel) isn't going to reduce velocity from either round that much. I can't find the thread now, but a couple of weeks ago someone posted a thread regarding chrono results with a S&W 640(IIRC) and the same magnum ammo I used. His velocities differed from mine by only a few fps. I don't recall what .38 +P load he used, but it was similar to the ones I used...not identical though.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, your math(or assumption) is wrong. A 21K PSI(+P .38 SAAMI spec) load is going to generate more velocity than the standard 18K(standard .38 SAAMI spec) PSI load, regardless of the barrel length. A 25k psi load is going to generate more velocity than a 21k psi load.
