I was thinking of getting another 22
Tell me about the Sig Mosquito |
They need a good break in of 200 to 300 rounds with CCI Mini mag ammo only, this comes from Sig and many owners. After that it will be one of your favorite plinkers, I know mine is. And it will shoot the cheap value pack ammo.
thanks,,
I think i see one in the future. does anyone have a can on one.. |
After owning several target type .22 lr's, it's one heck of a lot of fun to shoot a service type .22. Mine is in the process of breaking in, I have high hopes of getting off MiniMags soon and into less expensive bulk pack. Cost of extra magazines sucks, though.
Picking mine up tomorrow.Can't wait!
I'm as excited about this little piece as I was with all the rest of my sticks. |
I would recommend the Walther p22 over the Sig. I have a friend who had one and it would not function. He brought it back to the store and they sent it to the factory for repair. It came back and still didn't work. They gave him a brand new one and that one didn't work either. He wound up getting a refund.
I have a p22 and it functions flawlessly and is very accurate. |
Mine works just fine but I have only shot CCI mini mags I think you will like it
Took mine to the indoor range last night and threw about 400 rounds of CCI Mini Mag down range.Only had 1 FTF and was very happy with the performance of my Little Skeeter. At this point I only have 1 mag so it's kind of a pain to load the mag "40"times,but I figured even if I had "40"mags I would have to load them the same amount of times, lol.
6 more mags on the way....Coulda bought "17"30 round P-mags for my AR's for the same price, lol. |
what are these going for where you guys are. I saw one at a local shop for 389 with a threaded barrel.
Mine was $289+tax for one w/out threaded barrel. They are $336 with a threaded barrel.
North side of Houston. |
Are you guys serious with the $380+ prices? MSRP is $358, and I bought a new reverse two tone under $300 a couple weeks ago. Bud's has them for $330, and if someone is telling you $389 you might tell them where to "install" their Mosquito. Not a $400 pistol!
Nice little pistol. Just got mine broken in. CCI mini mag's work best. Now shooting Win. lead bulk pack. I would like a nice low profile adj. Rear sight. And i am thinking about a trigger Job. But over all very happy with it.
I brought a NIB at a local gun shop for $318 with the threaded barrel, just waiting now for the paperwork for my Gemtech Outback II
its nice to hear this i plan on pu one soon thanks SOON IS WENSDADAY COULDN'T WAIT 335.00 total
I p/u a LNIB one last year. at first it gave me some problems with RP bullets, but after a good cleaning/lube, it has been working fine. I also p/u a NIB w/Threaded bbl for a future can. Havent shot it yet.
These have a really, really, bad reputation. But... I'm a sig fan and with ammo getting more expensive the mosquito fit the bill. I found a 2-tone reverse for $289 and bought it. So far I've only used the CCI and haven't had one ftf or fte.
My serial number begins F0 so I think it's pretty new. The only thing that bothers me is when a manufacturer has to put a special card inside the case that says use CCI ammo... It's easy to shoot. A lot of fun and, most importantly, reliable so far. |
I picked one up in April at the MCX for $297. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, and won't now that I'm heading downrange again next month. I hear they are fun to shoot once they are broken in.
I don't thig SIG said you have to use CCI, go ahead and try some others. As I shoot it in with CCI, it seems to accept bulk pack Winchester and Remington more readily. i am not planning to shoot CCI in it forever.
There's a postcard they're inserting nowadays that says they tested it w/ CCI mimi mags and recommend them. In the manual there's a part where it basically says it's not made for all .22 rounds. Then of course there is the $10 off coupon for CCI mini mags. I don't mind using them while I'm breaking it in, but it seemed strange to me that Sig would really push a specific ammo company. They could have just said use 36 or 40 grain high velocity ammo and higher. |
Just got back from the range with mine and did a little experimenting with CCI ammo.
My mosquito was a "problem child" like you've all read about until I started using CCI minimags. CCI minimag High Velocity: Ran great with the small, heavy main spring installed. (And ofcourse, with the long, light spring.) CCI minimag Standard Velocity: It ran pretty crappy with the small, heavy sping. I'd say probably 2 or 3 jams per clip. Switched out mainspring to the longer, light mainspring and it ran much much better. While switching out the springs I had a thought... All of the jerking the "weighted" block on and off the front of the gun made me think about moving the front sight to where the plug is on the slide instead of running it on that front weight. I am thinking that if that weight isnt put on exactly in the same spot every time, then it might affect accuracy? Maybe I am a bit paranoid or whatever, but I'd still like to eliminate a problem that may exist. What say you? |
Range report from today.
700 rounds fired with only "1" FTF(fire)can ya see me smiling? Ran a Fed 550 round bulk pack with the 1 ftf.I can live with that "For Sure" Ran 150 rounds of CCI Mini Mag without a failure. For the price difference, I will be shooting ONLY Fed bulk pack from here on.At $11.97 a box, I'm a Happy Camper!! PS...I did break it in with 400 rounds of CCI Mini Mag in the beginning. |
Are there any online gun stores selling the threaded barrel Mosquitos for around $320?
Try Top Gun Supply. You can sometimes find them on Gunbroker.com for that.Where abouts in Texas r u?
Savageman |
I am in the DFW area let me know if you find a place I am looking for another suppressor host.
What does the 400 rounds of CCI beakin do? Weaken the springs enough to allow lower velocity to cycle properly?
I don't think so.I think that more than weaken the slide spring it wears in "ALL"the contact surfaces of the slide to frame. Also wearing in the feed lips of your mags. The velocity diff. between CCI Mini Mag and Federal Bulk pack can't be more than about 40 FPS.Not enough to make a difference,IMO. Before I fired a round I racked the slide (with rounds in the mag)prolly 600 times while sitting at my PC playing online Poker.Maybe that had something to do with only 1 FTF in 1,100 rounds fired. I have some 22 ammo that has been in storage for about 12 years that I will be taking to the range this Saturday.I do believe that they will fire flawlessly.I will give a report on Saturday. |

Looks great!
One thing I like about the mosquito... doesn't look like your average .22 |
Yea thats one thing that drew me to it...its got a great feel to it also, handles really well |
guys any body got a bruised trigger finger real heavy triggers pu mine yesterday looking to do trigger job gunsmith says it a pain on these guns???????/[
I had one tonight on the counter ready to have the paperwork go through when they told me that since my new address wasnt on my drivers license that they couldnt sell it to me. So I have to get it changed and then go from there
I bought mine in early '07. THOUSANDS of rounds have been through this thing. Yes, the occasional hang fire, or ftf have happened a time or two. CCI Mini Mags are good, but mine has digested remington thunderbolt, Aguila Super Max High Velocity to name a few more types of ammo, effortlessly.
If I had to buy it again, I would. I like the little guy! |
I love my Mosquito. It has never had a FTF on thousands of rounds of CCI, only that cheap Aguila I got from Cabela's. I would definitely buy it again, the Walther feels like a kids gun in my hand.
update. shot mine today 500 rounds with out a hitch sweet gun to shoot gotta love those skeeters
Just got back from another range trip with the "Skeeter".
Brought 500 rounds of 12 year old Remington Thunderbolt and 200 rounds of CCI Mini Mags.ALL fired without a failure.I will be picking up another Skeeter w/threaded barrel on Monday.1,700 rounds and 1 ftf,I'm liking it more every trip. Savageman |
very nice! I just ordered the black threaded version |
im happy with mine never heard that it needed to be broke in with cci mini mags. well i live here in the midwest and i paid about 100.00 more the everyone of youal
As far as the trigger jobs go, Grays Guns http://www.grayguns.com/ (not affiliated with) seems to be the prefered smith for the skeeters. I haven't had him do anywork on mine, but he is one of few that will even touch them.
I bought a skeeter a week or so back and so far it has been pretty reliable. The trigger pull was pretty rough, so I dry fired it using the included orange dry fire plug approx. 3000 times before going to the range. After around 500-1000 dry fires the trigger smoothed up and lightened up some. I took it all apart and CLP and miltec'd all the springs, etc and now the trigger is manageable especially in SA.
Only taken it to the range once with CCI HV MiniMags 36gr. Shot 200 rounds with only 1 FTF probably about 10 rounds in and then no other FTF or FTE problems. The only other problem I noticed is the slide doesn't lock back after the magazine empties, but I can deal with that. Also FYI because of how the three dots are "set in" to the posts they are quite easy to paint, I painted mine with an acrylic white mixed with a glow in the dark paint and it looks much better IMO. |
picked mine up last night with the threaded barrel. Would have been nice to get 2 mags but oh well i guess.
I also bought 500rds of CCI Minimag to break it in properly. It will be a good weekend |
Stretch...You can pick up "Factory Sig"mags at AIM surplus for $29.99 ea.About the best that I've found so far. |
thanks that was my next question |

I have had my Mosquito for three months and had decent performance with CCI MiniMags. With two additional magazines added, feeding issues developed. A trip back to SIG and the magazines were adjusted. It now takes Winchester Wildcats .22LR as reliably as MinMags. The secret is (from the SIG manual) to lightly lubricate the rounds. I use a silicone gun cloth to do this. Shoots like a champ now.
