I have always been on the lookout for one, and today I struck. Its literally flawless and was $500 OTD. Maybe be the serial number it was made in 1997?

Do you see now why it has a cult following? Nothing balances like a P228 in the hand. One of the most stellar products SIG Sauer has ever produced.

I had and stupidly sold a great, well worn police trade in 228 I bought for $300 years ago. Perfect size in my opinion!

What is the current status of mags?  229 mags aren't compatible or something?

My 228 will be the last gun you will find me holding... My 226 will be laying right next to it..

Oh, I have always known of how nice the 228 was, I just never wanted to spend upwards of $800-$1000 for one.

This one was local, and I was like "Yes, make this mine".

For mags definitely go for the Mec-Gar 15-rounders, with the nickel plated finish. Greg Cote is the site to order SIG mags from.

Best price on a 228 I've seen in a long time.  The best of the SIG P series by far.

Sweet gun.  I had one but could not shoot it as accurately as the 220.  Sold it and ended up with three 220s.   The 228 became valuable with three mags during the CA ban era.

Not even really a if guy and the P228 is one of my favorites.

I can't say enough positive about it.

I purchased a CPO 228 in 2007, the pistol was flawless, looked like it was never shot, OTD for $475.   My biggest regret is selling it.  I am looking for another one, but not willing to pay the $900 plus price.

I shot a friends P228 once and was amazed by how well it fit me. When I turned 21 in 2008, I found one for sale locally for $550 (a shit ton of money for a college boy) with trijicon night sights on sigforum. It's the first pistol I ever bought and still my daily carry almost 10 years later. For $500 you got a deal.

Edit: does your slide not have the "Made in Germany" stamping under P228? Don't know if I've ever seen one without that. Mine is a 2003 year and has it.
