I already have a G26 and wanted a G17, preferably a 17L, but I can't find ANY 17s around here, a guy at the show this weekend said he can't get them. Anyways, I've found 2 screaming deals on G19s, a gen 1 for $330 and a NIB 3rd gen for $509.

I want something bigger than the 26 for sort of combat work, rather than deep cover. I realize that most agencies are useing the 19 rather than the 17 for a duty weapon (including the few US .mil units that got glocks) I jusrt want to make sure it is big enough to be worth buying. I'd like to know if the sight radious is that much bigger also.

I think it was a 1st gen. I'm pretty sure that's what it looked like. Pebble texture all the way around.

Is a G23 the same size as a 19? I worry that it isn't any bigger than a 26 w/ extension. Does it feel that much better in your hand?

G23 and G19 are the same size. You probably need to try both before you buy. If your hands are big, the 17 may be better for you. I really like the 17 (have 2) but I carry a 19 for CCW. I still don't shoot it quite as well as the 17 because it is small. Mom has a 26 with the finger extension. It is hard for me to hold and not get a hand mark from the slide.

Try before you buy....

First generation G19s in private hands are extremely rare. They were essentially cut down G17 frames.

The 26 is defintely way too small for any type of duty use. For my hands even the 19 is. I prefer the 17 if it came to that type of situation. However, the 19 is just small enough and just big enough to be used for CCW and a duty/combat pistol in my opinion.

It's the best of the both worlds pistol on the market to me. It disappears under a tshirt and still big enough to work outside the waistband in a retention holster.

Thanks. I already had a G26, obviously not a comfy grip, but a necceity for CCW, I held a G19 and it felt to small, my hand hung about .5" off the grip. My problem (why I started this thread) was nobody had a G17 to try out, wich I felt was probably what I needed, I was even told they were hard to come by these days

, anyways I found a dealer yesterday that had a new G17 3rd gen for $499, so that's what I got.

A Glock 17 hard to come by what the hell kinda crack are they smoking? Yeah 22s are more prevalent but uh not like the 17 is rare or something...

I have the best of both worlds. 19 chopped to 26 mag length. 19 sight radius, little more velocity. The short grip does not print at all!

Another approach is to just drop a G19 barrel into a G26. You don't get the sight radius, but you get everything else. A bit lighter too.
