I have disassembled my 1911 after every other range session and pulled tons of build up/crap (I shoot Wolf ammo
 ) from the firing pin and extractor channel. I have never disassembled my G19 slide in almost ten years and somewhere near 10K rounds. How dirty can it be? Does the Glock design of the rectangular pin channel keep crap out of it? |

Yeah, they get dirty just like any other gun. The dirt and build up just doesn't effect them like it does some pistols. |

Yup...blow it out/dry it with an air compressor, a bit of lube here and there, and good to go. |

I only have about 500 rounds through my Glock 17 and it is still clean

Some guns handle carbon build-up better than others. Yes, it's dirty, but it doesn't matter much.
In any gun, carbon build-up should be self-limiting. Firing the weapon knocks off enough carbon in the right places - usually. I know of a 1911 that has gone over 2k rounds right out of the box without cleaning or failure, 93% of those rounds were lead. |

Get a FN Five seveN.
That has got to be one of the cleanest guns. 500 rounds thru mine and it only needed a few wipes with some CLP. |

i just dunk it in the pool and pass a round or two through it...works wonders, this is why they made it to shoot underwater. you know, i'd post pics, but i don't got no mo' fingers to work the camera. |

I went to close to 2K and no cleaning - she smeled dirty, my dirty G19 - but I love a bit of aroma.
  Oh, sorry that my gun I'm talking about.
