ALL JOKING ASIDE.... I have to agree, put all that Hardware on a beater AK. The SAM-7 Classics are great Guns, but the Wood however cracks easily. AT LEAST ON MINE they did. I had both a Classic No-Ban Fixed Stock Model, and a No-Ban Classic Underfolder. I replaced the Bulgarian Yellow Painted Wood with Polish Laminate. I then sold them, and bought SAM-7's. Even so, the Classic, well, is just that. A CLASSIC! For God's sake, keep it that way.

If memory serves me, I think that "thing" is an old Weaver Red Dot sight.  I think they came out in the latter '70s.
