Did IMI make the Galil in 7.62x39?  Was t ever imported to the U.S.?

Do the 7.62x39 Galil and Valmet use the standard AK47 magazine?

Thanks.

Galil never made a version in 7.62x39.  I don't know about the Valmet, but I'd bet it will use standard 47 mags.  The Finns used a variation of the AK so in the event the Russians invaded again, they could use their enemy's supplies.

There is a guy that is selling new Galil 7.62x39 barrels in the states, supposedly from IMI.  I've never dealt with the guy so don't know how legit he is.

Since they never made them, that should tell you how legit he is.

i have a steel 7.62 Valmet magazine and it fits/functions fine in my AK's.  it does have a little play side to side but only enough to be noticed, i've heard others have the same problem here.

Valmets in 7.62x39 use standard AK magazines.

There are pics floating around of Galils in 7.62x39 from somewhere in South America. I'm not sure if these were built by IMI or under license. I think Colombia is licensed to produce the Galil.

I don't know how this fits into the puzzle, but I have some old 7.62 x 39 casings that are IMI.  I bought a couple hundred of them in the early 90's to reload (I've got the dies).  You couldn't find much surplus 7.62x39 in the area I was in (Jonesboro, AR) at that time.  Some of the cases I reloaded up 10 times before I let them rest.
