If you are sure the hook is in the groove, then it is routed in a way that is not as snug as it should be. Compare to the diagram that should be on his site.

I checked the site after the initial problem and disassembled and then reassembled the trigger group several times, always with the same result.

You might have it upside down. This is a common mistake and I have made before. Simple $10 fix is redstar's retainer plate.

deburr the axis pin grooves with a file...lightly. spin them slowly in a drill motor.
route the shepherd's crook retaining wire under the hammer pin and over the trigger pin. |

A couple of E clips is the cheapest fix. I used 3/16", they fit in my SAR 1's pin grooves nicely. Can be found at hardware or auto parts stores. Lowe's has them also @ 2 for $0.88.

Yea, I thought about using the e-clips also but with the boards infinite wisdom I chose the redstar retainer plate for the ease of disassembly.
