I'v been kicking around some idea's for a few weeks concerning the receiver flats. They are a good idea that doesn't work for the home builder because the tooling to bend the flats is expensive. I would like some feedback on a different idea; receiver flats without the cutout magwell, eliminating the need for expensive tooling to bend it. Anybody should be able to cutout the magwell after the bending operation. Now, going a step further, how about "reproduction" serial numbers, i.e. custom stamped numbers to match your parts kit, but since it's on a flat, it's not a real serial number, just a "reproduction". I would really appreaciate some feedback on this, including legal angles, and if anyone would be interested in a product of this type. Thanks

C'mon guys, I need some feedback. I'm asking for this because I see the potential for a market. Would you buy a 80% ak receiver with all the fcg holes and slots already punched, upper rails formed, but no magwell or rear trunnion holes. (maybe the magwell outline punched in) in either a flat or a prebent shell? How about if you had the option for a reproduction serial number? You have a matching # gun, and want a receiver with the same #. As long as the receiver is a flat or a 80% bent shell, it's not a real serial # that falls under the purview of the BATFE...I think??? What  do you think?

FIrst of all it's "ideas" not "idea's".  As self-appointed anti-apostrophe-n-plurals monitor, I just had to say that.

Now, to your question:  I don't know why anyone would buy one of those flats with or without the magwell when you can get pre-bent blanks and with the ACE template it would take less time to make the cutouts than it would to rig a jig and bend one of the flats.

To my knowledge, the flats are not already heat treated, so you don't save any time or effort with the flats.  Maybe there is just no market for the idea.
