I think I count 9.  Interesting mix of firearms though.

I see 8, along w/a couple of potential Galils.

Hard to tell a para FAL and a Galil apart at a distance.

EDIT- maybe 10, not counting the SVD.

What are those guys doing with so many FALs? I can see how AKs and maybe a drag could be easy to get, but not FALs.

Is it possible they were issued some?  Wierd.

This is about a typical mix of arms found in your garden variety 3rd world army. If I am not mistaken the Guidon the guys are posing with identifies these men as belonging to a Marine EOD unit. My first guess is that most of the good folks on this board would cringe at what has already happened to those captured weapons. The chances of US Marines being issued FAL's is pretty remote, unless they maybe get detatched to a French reserve unit, the Marines deemed the M14 superior to teh FAL years ago, I doubt they have changed thier opinion since.

Identified:

8 undefolder AK's
1 full stock Chinese AK
1 Hungarian AKM
1 SVD
4 Para FAL's
3 M16's

2nd guy from top left has possibly an M249?
The black guy holding the flag holds a 12th unidentified AK variant...and the far right guy holding the American flag holds the 13th and most hidden AK in the bunch.

13 AK's total. What do I win?

I don’t see any Galils but I do see 4 folding FALs and I believe fishpoints 249 is a 240.

I dunno, I know FALs are common in third world countries, but I never saw a single one in any pics or film from Iraq till now.  They also look to be in good shape, and the Para version isn't normally seen 3rd world either.

Ken,

Excellent photo.  It's definitely a keeper to put up in the shop for all to see.

Thanks for sharing!

EOD guys arent typically issued rifles are they? That would explain the quantity of battlefield pickups.

Looks like the exact same rifle/configuration as the guy right above the stars in the American flag...

There are RPK's with side-folding stocks...never seen one with NO stock.

The guy above the stars definately has a FAL with the stock folded.  Pistol grip, handguards, sights, stock, definetly a para-FAL.

The guy on the left has an RPK. The stock is lost in the guy's black suspenders, or it may not even be there (i.e got busted off, these guys are "disposal" afterall).  You can tell it's an RPK from the longer barrel and the bipod.  RPK bipods are pretty unique when stowed.  You can see the bipod feet just above the drum mag.  While the drum mag will work with any AK, it does kill the idea that it's a FAL (though a drum mag for a FAL would be cool!)
