The MAK90 is one of many AK variants. The MAK90 is a Chinese AK, which comes standard with a thumbhole stock in order to conform to import regulations. As far as being similar to an "AK47", it depends upon what you mean by "AK47". Do you mean the technical definition of an AK47? Or do you mean the general "AK"? If you mean the later, then the answer is a definite yes. Any parts which are designed or labeled for the AKM will work with the more common stamped receiver MAK90, and the machined-receiver MAK90 will work with AK47 parts. All parts may require some fiting, but normally it isn't hard.
The MAK90 is a quality Chinese Kalashnikov, but in order to convert it to the traditional pistol-grip configuration, you will need at least 5 US-made parts. Someone else can chime in about that.
