Not in my inventory, but the 6x42, 8x42 and 4-8x42 should all fit the same from below as I recall from using other's. If other posts do not follow, check out pics on Tantal, FreedomOptics and Nightvisionweb for fit examples.
FWIW I do have a rare 4-8x42 weaver base model that has the same nice glass as the std mount series, and a weaver/siderail adaptor. Combo is a bit high on AK platforms, but the prices were right at the time and I like the flexibility among my collection. |

The scope will let you use the iron sights. I checked a couple websights just to make sure (Tantal and Freedomoctics), both say you can!

Thanks for the info, and the picture references.
It looks like the cheek weld will be a bit high with the scope, but I can use a universal cheek pad to raise the cheek weld up a bit. I bought the 6x42 POSP from Freedom Optics. Hoping to get it in before the weekend so that I can sight it in at the range on the new VEPR K. Being 7.62x39, I figured that the 6x42 would be a bit of overkill on the 16.5" barrel. The 4x24 (with the 400m range estimator) would have probably been perfect - but I have a hard time with lower objective diameters letting in enough light, so I went with it's big brother. If you can use iron sights with the scope on, there's no reason to worry about the 6 power giving you problems. Thanks again. |

Sounds like a very nice combo. The fatter of the 6x models (42 vs 24) also has a bigger exit pupil so your eye does not have to be in the Exact spot to see well thru it.
A bit of practice looking with both eyes to acquire targets, mainly left to find the object then right once it falls into the scope view, will help overcome the FOV issues that come whenever a higher power optic is chosen. Looking fwd to next week's range report! |

The VEPR K will be my first AK, so I am really looking forward to trying it out, and seeing what kind of performance I can get out of the rifle/POSP combo. I purchased a universal cheek pad after seeing the various pictures of the POSP mounted on AKs....Looks like it will be necessary to allow for the proper cheek weld. After I put a call in to my dealer, I was informed that he might not have the rifle in for the weekend, so it may be next week....Oh well, the sooner the better - but I have a 30 .06 Remington 710 that I just put a Nikon Buckmaster Mildot on, so I still have some "range work" to do this weekend. I'll be sure to post up how it goes. |
