762x39 ammo is not hard to find...best deals are going to be on the net, your looking at about 1000 rounds for $145  sometimes a little lower just gotta dig a little :)     good luck at area gun shows, mine likes to place 500 rounds for $150 and 1000 for $300  all because there is some sort of shortage I keep hearing about(BS I have ordered recently about 4000 rounds off the net) and the best excuse I have heard.."you better get what you can they will not be shipping anymore 762x39 into the country shortly, what ever is out here is it..."   assclowns, nothing more I hate than a lieing scammer

I'm an AIM SURPLUS guy myself.

$150 per 1000

AIM has a great reputation here - especially over in the AR15 / Ammunition section.

FWIW, the last gunshow I worked, I was across the isle from the Miwall guys. They heard a rumor that certain NATO countries were quietly buying up all the surplus .308 and 7.62x39 and dumping it in the ocean. These countrys are signatories to that UN small arms agreement that was in the news a few years ago. Some kind of small arms treaty between nations to cut back on personal ownership of guns. The only surplus ammo that is available these days is mostly 8mm and 7.62x54r and a few other lesser calibers. The last of the .223 ammo, the Lake City stuff and the British Radway is getting very scarce and pricey. Not to say you can't find the brand new production from Wolf and other domestic manufacturers. What they were speaking of was military surplus. I do know one thing, whatever is available these days is very expensive and won't be coming down in price. I think if you can find Wolf in your caliber for under 150, buy it. JMHO.

a lot of people around here have horror stories about sportsmans guide but i have ordered ammo from them several times with no problems at all. AIM, centerfire systems, and ohio rapid fire(5.45) all have deals too. it seems there is no one stop shop online though. you have to look here for this and there for that.

but it could be worse, none at all.

Academy Sports. Monarch brand (rebadged Barnaul) at $2.86 a box of 20. Thats like $143 per 1,000 for Barnaul. I clean them out every time I go.

Dicks also carries Wolf MilClassic for $2.99 a box of 20 and you get a 10% discount for ten boxes or more. If you buy a case of 50, you are out the door at $134.55 + tax. Sometimes they mess up and get black box instead, even better.

If you need to buy it cheap then the net is the way to go if you have no local outlet. Aim Surplus, SportsmansGuide, AmmunitiontoGo, Wideners, and JG Sales are a bunch of reputable places to buy from.

Start by getting over that sentiment.

Agreed. It is difficult to find good deals locally.  Sportsmens Guide (when it is in stock) generally has great prices and you can get a coupon for free shipping.  If it isn't in stock, I wouldn't bother ordering, just pay a little more somewhere else.

Golden Tiger or Brown Bear from AIM.  Don't know about the shipping, depends where you are.

Gasbolt, Cabela's has their Military Classic for 154.99 for 1000 rounds plus two ammo boxes tossed in, or 500 rounds and one ammo box. Shipping for me was only 12.75 from Wisconsin to my state here in Texas. I've seen shipping upwards 50.00 or more!

Oh, that is FMJ Mil Spec by the way. Didn't know what you were looking for.

As far as the online thing, I used to feel the way you do but one day jumped right in. Just look for the lock, meaning its encrypted, it's safe.hink
