Is there such a thing as 7.62x39 Short Barrel Rifle (SBR) ammunition?
Looked on the InterWeb - no joy. 
Think we could convince Hornady to build some? |

You would have to load your own if you want lower recoil. One of the pluses of 7.62x39 is that it is a good ballistic performer out of a short barrel. Recoil is pretty mild as it is.

You could do that but the power would also be reduced. With a short barrel, you're already losing velocity as it is, so most people are looking for hotter ammo, not slower. But, it could be done if you must have it. You probably would have to go subsonic before changing anything enough to notice.
