Well after reading the review of Golden Tiger, I do believe I will pass. Has anyone else had simular problems?
www.ak-47.us/Article_Detail.php?g=content1189253823 Target One: Worst of our test. Each of the magazines had failures. Mag one had 2, Mag three had 3 and Mag Three had 2 Golden Tiger, 124 grain Lead Core, Steel Case FMJ from Vympel in Russia |
I've shot a bunch of Golden Tiger and never had a failure. |
It's better then WOlf IMHO, never had any issues with mine in SKSs or AKs. |
One test in a cheapo Romy gun, with heavy pressure on the mag likely being the cause of their malfs and probably messing up the bolt hold on the round by varying the pressure on the carrier set as another byproduct of mediocre methods/gun.
I think their test is a fail. They test different ammo in different mags. If you want to do a test, use the same mag. I would disregard their results. I have used several hundred rounds of Golden Tiger 7.62x39 through AKs and a semi RPD. Zero malfuntions of any kind in anything. Also, the ammo just "feels" a little hotter then wolf. A little more power to it I think. |
Just shot off 1000 rounds through my MAK with 0 issues.
Going to order another 2 cases this week. |
I am at a toss between 500 rds Golden Tiger or 500 rds Barnaul silver. The Barnaul is $12 more.
Currently I don't have any Golden Tiger, nor have I fired any. Thinking I will go ahead with the Golden Tiger. |
I prefer GT over anything Wolf. I have shot several cases with very little trouble. I can't remember any, but couldn't swear that I didn't have a single dud. I seem to run about 1 dud per 2-300 wolf.
Doc |
is GT a bit more cleaner than wolf? There are only Wolf ammo at the shop i go to and never heard of GT until now. How is it comparable to Barnual and Bear ammo? thanks
The GT has an empty nose which will cause it to act like the 5.45 round ("poison" bullet).
No problems here with Golden Tiger. I actually prefer it over the Wolf Poly.
Hmm.
I have noted GT groups better than Wolf in my AK and SKSs. Has that cool purple stripe, too...! Wish I had bought more when AIM had it for cheap(er). (Flame suit on) AMMOMAN (gasp) has it for $189 per 1K, free shipping, right now. |
Just paid $183 shipped at Copes Dist. |
Just paid $191 shipped from Copes. Wish I was a little closer to Ohio.... Oh well. I'd rather spend $2 more than have to deal with ScammoMan. To each his own though. Golden Tiger works for me. I've got a few cases set aside for a rainy day (I got a few cases when AIM still had it for $150 per K). Seems to be loaded hotter than black box Wolf and it is more accurate in my experience as well. |

Ammoman - $195 shipped for 1K = .195 per shot.
I just bought 1K for $189 shipped. HA! |
AmmoMan just upped his price. Looks like Copes is the cheapest place to buy from now. I had ordered from Copes anyway...would rather support them than AmmoMan. |
Yep I see Ammo Connection jumped the price $16 for 500 rds. Was $99 and now is $115. I bought on last week at $99.
It is cheap and goes bang every time! |
Ah, so they have good primers I assume? I thought wolf, although budget, was pretty solid ammo. So I guess Wolf just goes 'click' every so often? I don't think I would like that if I was loading for HD.
Wolf Military Classic is very reliable ammo as well. I have never had a ammo related failure with it either! However, Golden Tiger seems to be a bit cheaper these days. |
Better terminal ballistics. |
I have had excellent results with GT in every AK I own.
I'd have to have a lot of doubts about the quality of this "test". |
OK...what's wrong with AmmoMan?? I bought from them before without issue! Also, never heard of Copes! What is their website?? |

Eric the Ammoman used to be an industry partner of ar15.com. He sold a member here an SKS that he claimed was a "Vietnam bring-back". The ar15.com member received the rifle but it had import markings and was quite obviously not a "Vietnam bring back". The member contacted AmmoMan but he became rather irate and refused to accept a return on the rifle. Horrible customer service. His response to problems with other members orders is often "F**K OFF". You don't have archive access, but for those who do this is the original 20 page thread so you can view the carnage yourself. archive.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=109&t=335943 Ammoman is obviously no longer an industry partner as a result of the above incident piled on top of many others. I don't buy from AmmoMan on principle. And it is often easy to beat his price if you look around. ------- Here is Copes website- https://www.copesdistributing.net/ Golden Tiger www.copesdistributing.net/product_info.php?cPath=45&products_id=32 Copes is a well respected ar15.com industry partner.- ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=2&f=224 One of Cope's employees will give you shipping cost estimates to your zip code if you post it in this Equipment Exchange thread for Golden Tiger.- ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=133&t=462431 |

Copes is out of GT anyone know when they will get some back in?
Just got a 500 rd can from the Ammo Connection. Golden Tiger. Believe 1000 rds for $195 including shipping.
Lol, I know it too. Something about their life sucks and that's the satisfaction that I smile to myself everytime. |
I bet there are many forum members that still buy from ammoman even though they hate Eric and say they would not buy from him. Personally, I buy from ammo-connection. 195.00 with fast shipping and great service. but I have bought from AM in the past and will so if they have what I need. |
I just ordered 1000rds from Copes for $190 shipped, so far they have the best price on it.
Wow, thanks for the link to the Ammoman thread. He'll get no money from me, ever.
Can you prove this? Could you or someone post a link to a source? I've never heard this before. |
Does anyone know of any testing that's been done to see if the hollow tip will actually cause it to yaw and tumble?
The 7.62 and 5.45 bullets are shaped differently and have different muzzle velocities. Just because they both have hollow tips doesn't mean they're going to behave the same way. |
lead poison 5.56x39 tends to tumble, hence the name |
Never heard of that caliber. |

I was looking around for some 7.62x39 GT and i came across a dealer in AZ, i ordered 1k and he said it would be $38 shipping to the east coast, $217 total, i said forget it, then i found Cope's and on the website it was $169.99, so i called up and asked for shipping charges and the girl says $18 so i make the order and i ask for the total and it comes to $10 more, so i ask her why? and she says 179.99 plus $18 shipping and i tell her the website says $169.99, and she says oops we forgot to change it, then i hear what sounds like her boss in the background and he says give it to him for $169.99, now thats good customer service, plus i ordered it monday and i received it today thursday...
