I recently bought some e-clips to use in place of the shepards hook wire, but now I see there are metric sizes as well as the standard ones. Does anyone know what metric size the axis pins are, in the slot where the shepards hook/e-clip goes?

I think 7/32" is correct.  I usually take needle nose pliers and bend them in slightly for a very tight fit.  You can stack them up two wide and they'll take any play out of the pins.

5mm is the correct metric size.  7/32" is a tidge too large but will work if you don't have metric available.

The small end is 5mm , the large end is 7mm.
