OK, I was doing some thinking that was started by another thread in which some of the AR guys were trespassing on our side making condescending comments.

Anyways, one of them made the comment that by the time you go through all the hassle and expense of making a Krink 922r compliant, you might as well just go the SBR route.  That got me thinking.

So I did some calculations.

16 countable parts, no more than 10 of which can be imported.  Since either way you will be using a USA receiver, I'll ignore that in the cost.

The US parts I would use would be:
Fake can     (1 part)      $125+ ship (I think this was what I paid)
Gas Piston   (1 part)      $20+ ship
    FCG  (3 parts)                $30 + ship

Total not including shipping to go 922r:  $175

SBR via ATF tax stamp:          $200

Difference:  a whopping $25 and a few months anxiously awaiting arrival

HMMMMMMMMMMM.

Am I missing something?

You could make it a pistol and save the 175$ and call it a day.
