I've noticed after cleaning my AR that the paint on the inside of the upper receiver  has mostly worn off now this is my first AR I've shot maybe 500 rounds through it so far is this normal? BTW it's a Bushmaster XM-15

It's not paint. It is a dry lube that is applied at the factory. The flaking off is normal.

That's the inside of the "upper receiver" which is anodized aluminum.  There is no paint.  What you are seeing is dry lube, perfectly normal.

I'm a little worried that you don't even know what the chamber is.

And unless you're running an Olympic Arms... nothing should be "Painted".
