Didn't find anything in a search, so popping the question.

Does anyone know of a somewhat reasonably priced drop in trigger for an AR-15? Not looking top of the line, but at least something a little bit better than the standard AR trigger.

Don't know if this is a reasonable amount, but I am thinking about $125-ish?

Am I thinking way too cheap?

Just don't feel like fighting that trigger in on a new build, and don't want to worry about whether or not I wallowed out one of those trigger pin holes.

I think you are over-exagerating the difficulty and/or risk involved in installing a trigger, but if it is a cassette style trigger you want, CMC's can get inside of your budget on sale.  There are likely others but I am not all that up on them as I don't do cassette triggers.  You might want to take a look at anti-walk pins if going that way as well.  Not necessary for a regular trigger.

Velocity has some right around the price range.

If you don’t want a drop in, get a Larue 2 stage for under $100

Rise Armament RA-140 is a 3.5ish pound single stage with a short reset.  Typically around $120 but on sale for as low as $90.  Often comes with anti-walk pins.

Larue or Rock-River for a curved two-stage trigger.

Larue is a wide-and-flat trigger-face profile, with an abrupt edge on the face (I'm not really a fan - although I have two).
Rock River is conventional rounded trigger-face (I've got two or three).

Each breaks around 4.0 to 4.5 pounds.
You won't reliably get 4.5 pounds (if that matters to you) unless you switch-out the two-coil trigger spring to a Geissele three-coil spring.
No matter what Rock River says about it being a 4.5# trigger. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it isn't. In my experience.

The reset-point of each is about the same - about in the middle of the range of movement, and with little take-up after reset.

Larue trigger is $99 on their website. Same price on EE here.
Lots of resellers of Rock River triggers. $80 at https://www.righttobear.com/rock-river-2-stage-trigger-ar0093nmk/

Would be my suggestion as well, but OP doesn't want to deal with separate trigger and hammer install for some reason.

My son has a single stage CMC drop in for his rifle, and loves it.

Just my 2 cents, but I have both the RA 434 and the Larue MBT-2S.
Not apples to apples, but the Larue is much better and cheaper.

Schmid 2-stage triggers go for around $70, down to $50 on holiday special:

I think you're overthInking the need for a "drop in trigger", but I do have a 3.5 pound CMC and really like it. I've been considering picking up another one to replace the SSA in my 16" barrel LPVO rig (if that tells you anything)

Only one trigger I would recommend

SSA-E

Buy the Larue and pull up a video on YouTube. Trigger installs really aren’t that bad.

Most cassette triggers don’t have anti rotation or anti walk and will wear your trigger pin holes out way easier than you installing your own would. Cassette triggers should always have some form of anti rotation and anti walk, where as a non cassette trigger is built in a way that it’s not an issue.

I’ve never had a cassette trigger wear out the pin holes, but I have had them walk and rock. Even models with built in screw tension to stop it. A few of them have started including anti rotation pins with their cassette triggers as time has shown they’re not as stable as everyone once believed.

To me all AR triggers are drop in, meaning requires no hand fitting...

Any of the hundred relabels is the Schmid 2 stage, a LaRue MBT, or a JMT would for the bill.

Also possibly a Hiperfire.

Just get a larue mbt 2.   It’s not drop in,… but triggers are stupid easy.
