Once upon a time there was a military household occupied by three bears,

Papa bear


Mama bear


and Baby bear



Papa bear had been around for a while and like the rest of the bear family was built up from parts over the years.  He was a Bushmaster lower on a Colt upper and 16"M-4 barrel. He had a large but comfortable butt made by LMT and a Vickers sling hung off it's side.  Unlike Rosie O'Donnells butt that was packed full of cellulite, Papa bears butt was full of batteries for the Aimpoint M68 sight and Surefire 6P light that hung off the side of his Knights RIS handguards.  In case his Aimpoint ever went down, he had a backup sighting system up his sleeve in the form of a Matech BUIS.  The bear household had a fondness in their heart for the Matech sight and everybody in the house had one as well as a hat on their head in the form of a Knights flash suppressor.



Mama bear was a little younger than Papa bear but had already been to a couple schools as well as seen a lot of range time back when ammunition was a lot cheaper.  Now Mama and Papa bear were of the same style but Mama did have a few differences that made her uniquie from Papa bear.  Mama bear was a Rock River Arms lower but her top was pure Bushmaster from her upper receiver to her 16" M-4 barrel yet too she wore the same family Matech BUIS and KAC flash suppressor.  Her rail system was similar to Papa bears but she had the newer RAS system and instead of a simple Weaver ring, her Surefire G2 light was held on by a CAA light mount.  Mama bear also had a few other differences such as her eyes that were a different color than Papa's. Mama sported an EOTech 511 holographic sight.  Her sight though went through batteries like Bill Clinton went through trailer trash though so her padded Vltor butt was also filled with extra N-cell batteries as well as a couple spare batteries for her Surefire light. Her sling was like most women a little more complex than a mans in that it was in the form of a 3-point Mamba sling bought from the local PX.  



Baby bear was the newest adition to the bear family.  He hadn't seem much trigger time other than his initial test-fire and zeroing since his owner was only 2 1/2 years old but his owners father wanted to make sure his boy would have his own carbine before any future ban would have a chance to rear it's ugly head.  Like the rest of the bear family, Baby bear was also a mix of parts such as a Double Star lower receiver with an A1 pistol grip underneath a Colt upper and Bushmaster superlight barrel.  While he wore the same KAC hat, and Matech BUIS, he was a lot simpler than his parents with a standard CAR-15 handguard and a battery-free Trijicon Reflex sight.  His stock was also a more simple and lighter weight Colt Fiberlight stock and hanging off it was another 3-point sling of a long forgotten design that would only work with the fiberlite stock. While his skinny butt lacked the storage space of his larger parents, the smaller buttplate would fit his owners smaller shoulder better and with the Reflex sight and no light, there was no need for batteries.  Actually, Baby bear's entire design was developed with lighter weight in mind.  While Papa and Mama bear weighed in at a hefty 9 3/4 pounds loaded, Baby bear weighed in at only 7 1/4 pounds with a loaded lighter weight 20 round magazine.  All this was made so when Baby bear's owner was a little older, he could handle it easier and carry it longer than his parents heavier and more complex carbines.  


...and they all lived happily ever after.

That's a fine family of "bears".

Already Baby bear has had an update in the form of a 550 chord mag-pull loop installed.  I was thinking about getting a Magpul loop but I think this is going to work out just as well and still fit in the old magazine pouches.  Now we just have to PCS to an area where we can go shooting like I did with my dad when I grew up.  Oh well, I got time before he's ready for that anyways.
