I have a A1 upper reciever that I'm going swap out on my A4 RRA 9mm, & it needs refinished to match the lower. I bought a can of Matte Black Alumahyde II (their recomedation) from Brownel's. The Brownel's tech rep said to have it bead blasted for best results. So I take it down to the gunshop in town, & he shows me how to do it & lets me go at it.
Before  After  My question is, is it supposed to have turned silver? What about the hard anodizing, is that still on there? I guess I just want to make sure I didn't screw it up or weaken the metal. I'd hate for it to go KABOOM! Any tips or advice is welcome. Thanks hk45shooter |

i imagine that your stripped away the hardcoat anodizing.
It wont STRUCTURALLY weaken the upper by a significant amount, however, the bare aluminum that you blasted down to is very soft...succeptible to scratch, dings, dents. HOPEFULLY you did not blast the INSIDE of the upper reciever. This would amount to accelerated wear around the moving parts...charging handle/bolt and carrier. The rep from brownells is an idiot. And you should figure out who he is...and write a letter to the president of brownells. That rep more or less told you to do something that in essence, ruined your reciever. AND FURTHERMORE...that gunsmith is a tool for not knowing better. FOR FUTURE REFERENCE...NEVER, AND I MEAN NEVER ASK FOR AR15 ADVICE FROM ANYONE BUT ARFCOM!!!!! |
