I PUT A 3 PRONG FLASH HIDER ON MY AR PISTOL. A FRIEND TOLD ME IT DID NOT NEED A WASHER JUST PUT A SMALL AMOUNT OF LOKTITE AND JUST SNUG IT UP ON BARREL. IS THERE ANY CERTAIN TIMING FOR THESE FLASH HIDERS OR DOES IT NOT MATTER.
IS THIS THE PROPER WHAY TO INSTALL THIS FLASH HIDER?
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

I have a very old SP1 that has a split washer on it first.

That's the way Colt did it.

I've also bought a few old military barrels with the three prongs.  All had washers.

As long as one of the slots is not top dead center, yes.  With the open slot topd dead center, you tend to blind yourself at night or white out/heat vapor the target picture during bursts since the upward slotted flash is directly in your sight plain.

Common DIY install tool for this is an old butcher knife.  Just slip it between the tines of the 3-prong and tighten.  Yes on the split washer.  No special orientation (or "timing").

Heat melts Locktite.  This is not a place to use Locktite.

bigbore@adco has stated that red loctite is what is used for the ops inc brakes and it works

also chevrolet uses it on there brake caliper bracket bolt and brakes get just as hot if not hotter than a barrel would and the loctite doesnt just melt. a 1/2 breaker bar with 260lbs of weight(me) behind it is a task to remove.

You can use split, crush, or peel washers. The split washer is what they origianlly came with.
