BUFFER WEIGHTS

Rifle - 5.15oz, aluminum
CAR - 2.9oz, aluminum

H - 3.77oz
H2 - 4.7oz
H3 – 5.6oz

9mm - 5.47oz, steel
9mm A - 6.3oz CAR style buffer
9mm B - 7.1oz CAR style buffer
9mm X - 7.9oz CAR style buffer

My question is.  What drives the need for the 9mm B or 9mm X buffers?
Would a FA need such a heavy buffer to cycle reliably?

Thanks..

First would be use of 9mm with a CAR style stock and a suppresor, takes more uuumph to get the action started, so the bolt will stay closed that weeeee bit longer, less debris out the eject port and port pop...  I use a rifle stock on my SBR (9mm and 223/556, and my rifle buffer weighs 7.04oz, works great.

Weight is used in Full-Auto to control cycle rate... Used to be that the only CAR style buffer available was the 2.9oz, the M16 fellas would swap thier rifle stock for a CAR, and go short barrel, then the rifle would funtion tooo fast/cycle couple and stoppage.... hammer down on a live round... the bolt assembly move so fast that it would re-bound from the close position just enough that the bolt unlock slightly, holding fire pin from striking primer, and the hammer would meet the rebounding bolt-carrier and follow it back forward (stoppage).

Follow Subguns.com NFA discussion, or the M16 forum here, and you'll catch a topic accassionally from a new M16 owner that wants to know why his M16 fires a couple round and stops, but work fine in semi-auto....

Thanks..
