After looking at gun porn for months, I've finally decided my first rifle build will be a XM177E2 clone.  I've seen the two position aluminum stock and the A1 no-deflector upper online, but what are my options for 11.5" A1 profile barrel?  I'd like a 1:9 or 1:7 twist (I know the original was 1:12, but that's a no-go now a days) and chrome lined.

Worst case scenario seems to be buying a lightweight 20" and chopping the barrel or getting an 11.5" and having it re-profiled.  Are these my only choices or can I get what I want off the shelf?

Thanks!

PS - I plan on addding a pinned 5.5" suppressor.

You know..............you can buy a 16" LW barrel, then get a special FH that gos back down the outside of the barrel to look like a XM177. M1S has it. I *think* it is called a "reserse" flash hider.

I just got one of J&T's lightweight 11.5'' barrels for $149.
They swapped the HG cap for a triangle one for me no charge but the FSB was misaligned when I got it. I didnt notice untill after I silver soldered the 5.5'' FS on so I had to remove a small amount of material from the upper to get sights to line up.
I'm waiting on my shorty triangle HGs from Total Silence to finish it up.

ETA: $50 extra for chrome lined.

Assuming you're going to use an original dimensioned flash suppressor, I'd consider getting the Bushmaster 16" Featherweight job, which is nothing but a longer version of the original dimensioned barrel, and having it cut and threaded for the suppressor.  If you want a total 16 inch length, cut the barrel to 12 inches and permanently mount the suppressor. If you want the original 11.5 inches, and don't mind paying the $200 SBR fee, then just cut and thread the thing.  That'll give you a dup of the original externally, with the faster twist you want.

That's what I did w/my Colt SP1 carbine 25+ years ago, when I class 3d it. It's still my favorite AR
