DuraCoat can be applied to any metal surface with the proper prep. It dosent require a parkerized surface to adhere but it is a very good surface to apply it on. Even a parkerized surface should be cleaned and prepped prior to application. If you are putting the coating over bare metal, media blast with 80 - 120 grit alum oxide, clean very well and aplly the coating. As long as you prep it well it will be fine.
I would not recommend "rattle canning it" because you will need to remove ALL spray paint prior to applying the coating.
